@Mrs_K_Desormeaux I have a dog rescue in the Gallery, I think it's called Brindleton Bay Dog Rescue.
If you want to make your own and haven't tried it, here's how I get it to work.
First I added stable like buildings to the Hounds Head lot and filled them with pet beds, toy boxes and auto pet feeders with a large dog training area next to it with the ramps, tunnels, etc. I made the house a bit smaller (console controls are having technical problems right now so I couldn't demolish it and start again). I made a small vet's office next to the stables. I left the outside all open for anyone but locked personal living spaces for Household Members only, like bedrooms. I did the same with part of the garden and added pet toys and loungers so household pets could get privacy behind a locked gated section. I locked bathrooms for dogs so they didn't all walk in and drink from the loo, because ick! I added a bath for dogs next to the vet's office, to bath new arrivals and strays.
I trained my Sim up to a high vet skill and visited the local vet's to buy a load of the Wellness treats, etc from their vending machine because it takes ages to make them, I added them to her own vending machine back at the rescue.
I set it as Dog Hangout lot trait and strays began to arrive. My Sim got really busy feeding them and adopting some. I then added some to her friends and family via Manage Worlds, then splitting pets from her household and adding them to others to re-home. I'd already made a ranch for her parents ready for dogs to move in and added extra bowls to her friends homes.
Her lot is open to my other Sims so I can visit with a different household and see if any strays are there to adopt.
I did run into a bug where the dogs weren't always eating from the bowls even though that usually works fine. I also needed robot vacs everywhere and set her reward traits to Steel Bladder, Seldom Sleepy, Carefree, Hardly Hungry. Her personality Traits are Dog Lover, Cheerful, Goofball (to try and ward off negative moodlets).
So that's how I get it to work because the strays really bother me as a pet owner. I do the same with a cat rescue.
@simsplayer818 How creative.❤ I never thought of that idea, making a actual household dedicated to rescuing animals with a residential lot also moonlighting as a rescue shelter. I'll totally have to try that out! I'll just have to chose a sim with a lot of patience and a animal lover. I love the idea of sims having a day out to adopt a dog. A really amazing idea! It also makes the game more engaging. totally implementing that into my save. 😊❤
