Will a Sims 4 disc expansion work with digital download base game?

Can I buy a Sims 4 expansion on a disc and use it if I bought the base game as a download through Origin?

I'm not sure whether this is possible / is able to be done? I don't see why it wouldn't work but I'd like to know for sure before I spent money on a disc expansion pack. Thank you.

    Yes. You activate the Expansion in Origin. If it came on a disc or not is irrelevant.
