Will strays keep spawning in Brindleton Bay if I neuter and spay?

I've started a new game with the intent of taking in strays from Brindleton Bay and getting them neutered, spayed and adopted, but quickly realized this is serious Sisyphus work if they're going to keep appearing. Realistic, of course, but if I wanted to play realistic Sims I'd just go outside.

Also, does anyone have any experience with the Animal Rescue mod/career? I tried it but when it was time for work my sim wouldn't go anywhere. I'm going to do some troubleshooting and googling in dev appopriate places too, just figured I might as well ask since I was making this post anyway 🙂

  • Does your lot have the Cat friendly or dog friendly lot trait? I believe you can edit the lots and remove those traits to stop them from appearing on the lot

Interesting question. I think it's a bit of both. Strays will likely be created by the game creating them and not by "breeding" with existing animals. In that case, neutering is pointless.

However, if existing animals aren't fixed, then they might end up strays. I'm not sure how that works if household pets can spontaneously end up "strays", or if existing strays can even breed. Maybe if the family had a pet and the whole family dies/moves out?

I suppose you can test it by keeping a record of all the strays and fixing them. Then checking periodically to see if any new ones are created by looking in the sim manager menu.

I suppose it's possible the game might not create any new ones if you already have existing ones. This would also mean any time an existing stray dies, a new one would likely be created and you'd then have to fix them.

  • This is very helpful, thanks! I've always figured the game creates them, I've just been wondering if it does so every time a stray gets a home and stops being a stray, or if it only happens when a stray dies (or by some other criteria). Guess I'll have to try to keep track manually and see what happens!

  • It does, but only because I want them to appear so I can get them fixed 🙂

@fooshiablix I know that's how the game works in other areas. In live careers like the Scientist career, the game is configured to have 4 co-workers join you with 2 more extra to swap with JIC. If one of them dies or quits, then the game automatically creates more. However, mods can fix that by having the game choose from existing sims to join the career instead of creating new ones. Same with the street vendors in San Myshuno.
