I had a work task to crash an engineering course several times, but since my sim got promoted, the option where I accessed the task changed to guest lecture instead of crash an engineering course, and guest lecturing doesn't complete the task. I'm stuck. It seems to be a long-standing bug, as I saw reports on it when I Googled but no solution. I didn't find a post on it here.

To clarify, do you mean that you got the task to "guest speak" at the current level 7?
Yes. I wonder if this bug only happens right after you get promoted if you HAPPEN to have that task come up. And only if you worked from home the previous day. Because then it's giving you tasks that are for the previous promotion level.
@8c7cd93d28862768 That is absolutely possible. This game can be so weird sometimes. Hopefully now your sim is able to complete the tasks and get promoted!

Without, I even tried to travel to the university and there is no option to crash course there.
No - it happens even without promotion, going to work the day before, multiple households affected as well.
