I've played this save since 2015. I started with three Sims, an alien detective Dahl, a doctor Christian and his sister scientist Alexandra. Dahl and Christian ended up married and have two children and Alexandra married her co-worker, Bradley. Alexandra and Bradley have two children as well.They all lived in Oasis Springs in Rio Verde house for a long time until I decided to separate the two families and start playing them rotationally. I moved Dahl and Christian's family to Strangerville and Alexandra's family stayed in Oasis Springs but they moved to a smaller house. I've played this save few times after separating the families, but the last time I played I noticed something weird. Alexandra's husband Bradley had lost all his relationships with his wife's brother's family. When they all lived in the same household they all had maxed out friendships with each other. Now suddenly Bradley didn't even know them, he had to introduce himself to all of them. His wife Alexandra and their son Peter still had their relationships, but why did Bradley lose all of them? Has this happened to anyone else? I'd understand if it was a bug that the whole family would lose their relationships after moving, but it only happened to one Sim.Bradley is a randomly generated Sim that Alexandra met at work and married, but I don't know why it would effect on this. Now I'm scared of separating any other families when they grow and don't have enough space in one household. :/

Yeah, I've had Sims forget each other. Playing rotationally, unfortunately, is a risk for that issue. Relationships decay so if you spend enough time away from a household, their relationships will diminish when you get back to them. How fast it decays depends on the relationship. I really wish Sims would just freeze until you go back to play the household again. MC Command mod has an option to turn off relationship decay. I'm thinking of putting it back into my game.

I never realized to check the relationships until the last time I played. I expected them to be the way they were. I guess I have to start keeping an eye on them from now on.

I play on rotation and can confirm relationships do disappear when you are not playing a household as they gradually reduce and then vanish altogether, but it does not usually happen fast.I do play on a very, very long rotation so to be safe, I use MCCC and set relationships to have zero decay. Might be worth you getting that even if you play on a short rotation, just to be safe in future.

are you using mods ? try going back to an earlier save
have you made a new sims 4 folder ? I was having a few bugs and that fixed them for me

No, I don't use any mods, my game is 100% vanilla. I haven't made a new Sims 4 folder. To be honest, I don't even know what going back to earlier save means. I mean, I don't have earlier saves and even if I had I wouldn't want to lose things that have happened recently.
I think I will just cheat the relationships back, since they never should've been lost. I don't like to use cheats, but in this case it's okay.

I know that relationships decay if you don't have the Sims interact with each other but in this case they just disappeared completely. It still happens, I even had my sims introduce himself again to his childhood best friends months ago.

I've found the same, my Sims have literally lived with other Sims as roommates for ages and been good friends and theyre marked as strangers now ?

I've had this to. I kept having to make my sim introduce herself to friends again all the time
