About Witches compared with Vampires

I wish the entrance to the magic realm was in a secret location. Like why is it just there in the open for all the world to see? I just don't understand this design at all. Why are all the premades just hanging out in the magic realm? I actually had to download a mod to stop it. I don't want to see existing premades like the Goths in my magic realm. These odd design choices have ruined the pack a little bit for me.

I’m thinking of getting Vampires next time there’s a sale. Are they invasive though ? Like, will my random sims risk getting bitten in the middle of the night out of nowhere ?

Or are they “contained” like spellcasters ?

This was one of the reasons I didn’t get the pack right away, but they had a sale so went for it. Invasive? In my game, no! They are there tho as you see the premades and they will “visit” you from time to time. I’ve had it happen twice and I found the animation funny so wasn’t too offended by it. However, you can hang garlic on your steps to keep them away.

I think you can make them more invasive with the mc command center I believe you can choose the percentage you want the vampires attacks to happen. One time I even saw a sim being transformed into a vampire in front of my sim I was like OMG O.O HAHAHAHA

It doesn't make sense to me the portal be right there to everyone to see it either. I also don't like seeing all the premades there thats why I think its too easy access to everyone? I question myself if all my world are wizards now.

In Sims 2 when you leave a spellbook out in the open and a non-witch interacts with it, they get bitten by the book. They could have done the same for the oh-so obvious portal. And then slap the sim with a permanent uncomfortable moodlet that has clear instructions on how to proceed from here on. Namely visit Sylvan Glade, a sufficiently mystic place that comes with the basegame and conveniently isn't even locked by a skill gate, so very beginner friendly. If a sim with the moodlet from the portal enters Sylvan Glade, a new npc is spawned and from here on it can many ways, all of them resulting in the sim being allowed into the magic realm for the first time.

BUT if they had gone that route, chances are people would have said it's too rpg-like, too much forced questing and too much like Strangerville. Too much or too little, there's no winning this game.

A bigger problem I see in how everyone is eligible for transformation into spellcaster and walking around the magic realm. It is as if the devs expect that every new pack they release will become the sole focus of our stories from that point on. Get Famous is an earlier offender: Now that celebrity sims exist, they are all over the place. Repeating that mistake is especially baffling after they did it right with mermaids (not the lifestate itself, but in how they are semi-hidden and it is up to the player if and to what extend they want to weave them into their lore).

Eh vampires used to break into your house for a bite, but it's been nerfed to hell. Though there is a very, very rare chance they will break in, but I only had it happen by putting the vampire nexus lot trait (it attracts vampires) and even then it took forever for it to happen.

The only invasive thing I can think of is them not growing old and dying, they stay young adults (and above) forever. Another thing is them wandering the streets at night, but it's the same thing as townies walking/jogging around during the day.

I got Vampires in September 2018 & had no problems with my humans being randomly bitten.

I've been abducted by aliens far more often than I've been attacked by vampires. I remember when I first got it I got bitten so much that I resorted to locking doors or using the freeze ray action once I knew someone was a vampire. Now they don't do much at all... They approach wait at the door and then leave.

I wish we could use magic to activate/deactivate the portal. Low-key wish it was a quest to build the portal.

Perhaps it would be useful. Because in one Save my magic users are openly a part of society. They partake in government affairs, I kind of have them as a religious order.

While in the other save Magic and supernatural Creatures are sort of low-key.

I do wish spell casters could talk about magic topics to non spell casters. Like a Human could "ask about Magic/Alchemy"
Vampires can "Show off powers" with other vampires I was hoping Spell casters can flex their powers with Humans too.

The only way I know to expose a witch is by witnessing them use magic in public, which (at least in my game) never happens, and while it's true that the portal to the magic realm kind of just sits there in the open, that's only in one world, and at the end of a long path that you probably won't ever travel unless you're going there specifically for the portal. There's nothing secret about it, but it's not in your face either, and I feel the same about vampires. There would be more secrecy to them if sims who have only met a vampire in their human or dark form would not recognise them in their other form, but with sims' names appearing over their heads, that concept would be doomed from the start anyway.

Great idea, I would actually love that! And I don't think it would have been too RPG-like, at least not any more so than everything else in the game. You want to get promoted? Work on the required skills and your job performance. Want to learn to cook food that never spoils? Complete the Master Chef aspiration. Want to be a powerful vampire? Build a friendship with one, go through the transformation process, and use your new powers to increase them. For everything you may want in this game, there's always some little quest or some requirements to get it, and it shouldn't be any different with magic.
