Avoiding (ultimately) “cookie cutter” Sims…

Anyone else find their many, many Sims end up much the same as each other?

I’m not taking in looks (though to a certain extent that can happen too) but the way they can end up living and reacting the same. Doesn’t seem to matter how rich or poor, what jobs, what traits, location or what interests; my Sims always end up with great grades, perfect job attendance, regular promotions, happy relationships.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a Sim maintain an enemy, get divorced, get fired, any of that sort of thing. I can come up with gritty, rounded or colourful enough backstories but my Sims seem to gravitate to this happy height and then I think I’m getting bored and start over again.

I know I’m not the only restarter but I don’t know if I’m a rarity in Sims that basically end up…. I don’t know, flat? bland? too perfect?
  • @WildIrishBanshee I used to think that too, but recently I had some good drama when my Sim wooed a married Sim - his wife even showed up at my Sim's door! She was very unhappy, at both my Sim and her husband. I even got a text message later on from one of my Sim's acquaintances, letting me know he had heard I had an affair. :D I'm not sure if this is base game, or came with a pack.

@fujicakes1 oh of course if that is what makes the game fun for you then you should go with that.
I didn't mean to imply that anyone else was playing wrong or anything.
Just offering some input for the OP who is looking for other possibilities besides "gravitating to a happy height".

Definitely! The op was asking for other OP(hehe)tions. I get it! My opinion didn't really matter in this at all lol, I guess I just felt like saying it anyway. A sense of self-importance that isn't warranted, perhaps.

In terms of appearances, I feel like I used to make different looking Sims, then started making most of them looking a bit similar but lately gone back to giving them more distinct features.

In terms of gameplay, I always try giving my Sims different traits, aspirations and stories. Whenever I make groups of roommates I make sure to give each at least one negative trait to make playing them more interesting too.
