C Drive full! computer-savvy people HELP ME PLEASE

I only tend to remove or move files that are taking up space, or using the disc cleanup tool if you are using Windows.

Click on My computer so you can see your drives. Right click on your C drive and choose properties, then you can click on disc cleanup, in the next window you can choose what windows can clean up for you, you can often clean up old update files or such. That's an easy and safe way to clean up the C drive but it doesn't always clean up a lot.

Removing or moving files that are taking up space manually
I tend to use a free program called Treesize Free, it lists all folders on your drive by size so you can easily clean up space manually. I don't recommend downloading programs that free up space automatically.

I always did clean ups manually, so I can't help you with software.
Is there a way to search for files bigger than x? Perhaps you would see files that are huge and that you don't need. I used to keep all zip archives when downloading something . that's not necessarily a great idea...
Do you save any sort of backup to your C drive? If so, there might be sets of old files that a re copies or outdated.
Do you save photos to your C drive? If you do like me, you might save lots of same motif pictures planning to sort out the better copies to keep later - but never getting to it. I normally delete 50% of my pictures once I get to it.
Saving any media files on your drive? Videos make for huge files, maybe delete or move to an external drive?
Also in TS4 there might be old saves that you can delete. Deleting them will also make the game run smoother.
If you often take pictures in game, your Screenshots folder might be about to explode. Move the entire folder to a USB storage. Also helps on game performance. Same for TS4 videos.

Not too tech savy myself and recently my C drive almost filled up completely with the Sims 4 installed. Wouldn't let me update my game or anything using the EA App.

Following a comment on this forum, I uninstalled the Sims 4 and re-installed it to my D drive, which has tons more space. Had to backup my saves, tray folder, mods, custom music and put the files into the newly generated Sims 4 folder located in the D drive.

Had a couple hiccups, but they were mostly related to the EA app. Hoping those get resolved with time.

Edit: Sorry, this is not storage cleaner advice, but it's what helped me in a similar situation.

Cleanup programs only eliminate bits and pieces left over after you uninstall software, so not that helpful. You've already received good advice about removing the sort of files that usually take a lot of space, like pictures, music and video files. You could also remove software you no longer use, make sure you uninstall it and not just delete it. Might be a good idea to check your downloads, and only keep on the computer stuff you regularly use in game, some of the files I've seen are really huge. Make sure you actually empty the trash bin, otherwise stuff you delete will just be stuck there and not free up your hard drive. Also, make sure to clear your internet browser history, it tends to retain a lot of pictures and stuff that can take an awful lot of space.

My TS4 folder is only 1.54 GB, and I have maybe half to 2/3 of the available packs at this point. 30GB seems really big.
You might have a lot of space taken up by things like mods or CC that you don't often use, or screenshots and videos that have been left in the Screenshots folder. I'd start by removing unused mods, CC, and screenshots/videos.

@QueenofMyshuno does your computer only have a C drive or does it have a D drive as well?

I do not install any games on C:\ drive unless it is a requirement, and it is for reasons outside of Simming as Windows needs space to install updates and also for converting some space for virtual ram and if the drive is full Windows start to triage what is most essential in keeping up with what is most needed and that can lead to problems. However, one should not fill any SSD or HHD to its max, being external drives are cheaper these days and the computer means to access them are faster now, I have the Sims series on externals and have not run into problems doing so.

All I know is my husband partitioned my hard drive into C and D and that leaves Windows on C and leaves D for downloading Sims and recently he put in another hard drive E that I can also download other things to, therefore leaving C alone to only have Windows on. Not sure if this helps or not, but hopefully it does.

Move or delete your screenshots. They can be large if you're running at a high resolution, or take lots of them.

On a more techy note, there's a program called SpaceMonger which can analyse your drives and draws a kind of picture that reflects how much space is being used up. If you have some old large files you'd forgotten about, this might jog your memory. Then you can decide if you want to delete them or move them somewhere else.

@Goldmoldar what kind of external drive would you recommend? I'm running into this same issue as @QueenofMyshuno is having and constantly finding myself running scrambling for space. Do I need to make sure that Origin/EA App are installed on the same drive as the game/packs themselves?

@AviendaTristyn how does your game run being on the D drive? Does it take longer to load, lag, anything, or do you not really notice a difference?

@HopeyStarr same question, how does the game run for you now that it's on the D drive? Notice anything significantly different, or about the same as when it was on the C drive? I'm really considering doing this as it's quite frustrating to have to keep scrambling for space each update.
