Can a Sim visit another residential lot to help with farm?

My sim lived on a farm friendly lot, with the chicken coop as his responsibility. He is set to inherit this lot, but moved temporarily in with his girlfriend. I now wonder if he will be allowed to still tend his old folks' chicken coop as a visitor?

Because he is their son, I assume he will be allowed to perform a few more actions without causing reactions like "How dare you do this in my home!". I also assume that his relation to each of the hens will be intact regardless where he lives.

I'll soon test this out, but if anyone had experience with a similar thing, please share! I'm posting this in the general forum because it might be just as interesting regarding growing base game plants as to tending farm animals.

I hope he can visit to collect eggs, clean the coop and feed them. It would also be cool doing something similar to pretend a sim is actually a hired farm assistant. It makes it easy to say keep 50% of the harvest as your pay, gifting the other 50% to the lot owner or leaving it on the ground and switch active house. Did you try this?
  • Haven’t tried it but in case they don’t like it, get the always welcome trait from the rewards store

I once ran an errand that required milk, but didn't have a cow at home, so I just rudely broke into a stranger's farm and milked their cow. :D It worked with no problem, and I think it would work with collecting eggs, too. Then again, nobody actually caught me.

The only thing I know for sure is that you can't do it on public lots. I set up a store for animal treats and upgrade parts with a cow called "Gratis Milk" in the backyard, so self-sustaining sims without their own cows could harvest milk and never have to resort to what that previously mentioned errand boy did. Unfortunately, while it is possible to interact with her normally, I can't milk her.
  • I tried going over to do those coop chores. My sim could do everything but collecting eggs and clean coop as those two were greyed out. I assume the coop was clean, but am not sure if that is the default status when visiting. There was 0 eggs to collect (from 3 hens) so again, was this because he was a visitor? I know we need to be present on a lot at 5-6 AM regarding crops on plants, but my experience is that new eggs can appear also during the day. My sim stopped for 5-6 hrs, and still 0 eggs.

However, he could "help his folks" with harvesting 4 soy plants. He left 2 soy blocks on their counter and too the other two with him. Forgot to check whether he can sell them or if game is not seeing him as the owner.

Well, will try again. So far it seems like it could be possible having an "imaginary" job assisting a farm by just going there to do stuff. In this case his folks did not react as they are his parents. But like suggested above, the always welcome trait could help if turning this into a profession :)
  • I'll often leave plants at neighbour's properties. Stuff like a line of onions or roses just sitting ready to plant. A sim with the Always Welcome and extra friendly traits can start planting and quite often the property owner will come along and help out. It's actually rather sweet to see.

As far as leaving harvestables, I've had mixed results there. Sometimes the house owner won't do anything with the harvestable. It just sits there, week after week. Sometimes when switching to that family to control them, I am only presented with "eat (whatever)" and "clean up". If I leave stuff outside on the ground I also get the "plant" interaction. I don't get an option to add it to their inventory. I can't recall if I can drag and drop it into a fridge or directly to a Sim's inventory though.

I'm familiar with this. The game seems to keep track of ownership to each and every pea. I don't think you can plant what is not yours. When Easter Bunny leaves flowers those flowers are probably gifts, technically.

It's very possible I may be wrong because it's been a while. I don't think your sim can open the fridge at another sim's house. However, I think you can direct your sim to put away leftovers. In the past, I've used that as my way of doing a welcome wagon thing when I've moved friends of my sims in next door.

My sim was able to open the neighbor's fridge, but then again they are his parents, he might still kept some rights due to high relationship, although moving out.

Maybe I'm getting it mixed up, and they can open the fridge but can't put away leftovers? Like I said, it's been a while.

Might be so, I did not try to add or remove anything.
  • With the Always Welcome trait you can cook from the fridge but can't put ingredients in.
  • I haven't tried that specifically but I don't see why the Always Welcome reward trait wouldn't help with that. Sims with that trait can make themselves at home on another sim's lot, I would assume that would extend to animal care and gardening.

You could also put the family in a club, have the parent's house be the meeting place, and have them garden as one of the activities. I don't know if tending to animals is a club activity or not though.
