Can We Curb Some of That Clipping, Please?

The clipping problem in the game has grown worse. Sometimes my Sims go out of their way just to walk through a wall, for instance. Oftentimes, they walk through furniture! The routing is part of this problem and while I understand why clipping is so loose, so to speak, because it cuts down on the Sims waving their hands and complaining they can't come down the stairs, etc., it has gone beyond the pale most recently. Here are just two of the instances I'm talking about:

It's one thing to have the Sims pass through furniture, but this is on the extreme side. I can always see when they are about to do something like this. They tend to slow way down and then swivel to buzz through the wall (whether it's up or down) and it's emersion-breaking. Please find a way to fix this. Thank you.

Sincerely,

GalacticGal

in it for the long haul.

  • Very. I recently did the Strangerville mystery, and my sim would regularly walk through the various fences around the secret lab as long as there was a 'go here' click available. This was true even for areas where there is nothing for the sim to do. Doors are regularly walked through and scenes such as those above are commonplace, whether with objects, walls/fences, or other sims. Maybe TS4 sims have ghost blood in them.
  • I think clipping issues are related to game performance (how well your computer is running the game). But I'm not sure. I have not noticed a lot of clipping in my game.

My sims walking through the actual door, itself, even after it opened was one of the first things I noticed. It got progressively worse after that. I play on a gaming rig, now a few years old, and perhaps it isn't as powerful as it needs to be. Hubby keeps mentioning I need a new computer, but so far it hasn't materialized.

A gaming computer should be able to handle it.

I don't remember but I think I saw in a video, I think it was one of Carl Sims Guides old video that in the sims4 they solved the issue with sims blocking each other like they could do in the sims3 by allowing clipping if the game was lagging behind, often caused by many sims in one place.

I have noticed that my game can lag behind sometimes as well, often during fall and winter because the game is probably struggling to render all the leaves and the snow. Appearantly the eco lifestyle eco sun rays are very demanding as well. Especially in Henford on Bagley, and I got a gaming computer.

The weather I can't do much about, except disabling weather effects which I would prefer not to, but I have tried things like getting sims less stuck using the same things, so multiple fridges and things like that helps sims finding paths and not get stuck and not clip through things.

  • I get a lot of clipping too. Doesn't bother me personally but I have noticed it. I just would rather they clip than to get stuck because I love tons of clutter. I just don't like the look of a big open space room like a lot if rooms were in ts3 because they would get stuck.
My sims just walk right through certain things or kinda glitch around it and I'm like good job! Cause I didn't feel like moving that ??
  • I won't spend money for this, Maxis. It's one of the many reasons I don't spend much on this game anymore.
  • @logion when I first sought a new computer and found one, I posted the specs in these forums I was told it should be good for about 18 months, but that I would ultimately have to upgrade the power. It's been way longer than 18 months. Also, I don't have Eco Living, it didn't appeal to me. I may experiment by switching off the rain/thunderstorms and see if that has an affect on it. I can tell, now, when a Sim is about to walk through a wall. My Global Superstar tends to do this. It appears more of a routing issue to me, but then again I'm not even close to being an expert. He slows way down and then pivots in a circular manner before moving through the bottom of the wall. I play with Cut-wall on, so I can see the family better. It's very odd to watch as it almost appears they go out of their way to clip through something. :open_mouth:
