Career Rewards and Career Club Perks Test Results

I took 4 sims, all with the same traits and aspiration and put them in the painter career. I cheated them all to have max painting and level 8 charisma, as I didn’t want a skill to stop any forward progress within the career.

Sim A continued on this test with no rewards or perks to help her along.
Sim B got the entrepreneurial reward trait only.
Sim C got the entrepreneurial reward trait and I put her in a club and immediately got the networked club perk.
Sim D joined the club and benefited from the perk only.

Every morning before work, I cheat their needs to maxed, and have them take a thoughtful shower and cloudgaze before work to get in the inspired mood. Each sim has the exact same opportunity, except they have different combinations of perks and rewards.

All four sims got promotions each day for the first 5 levels. Promotion to the 6th level took 2 days for all sims.
I made sure to pick as neutral chance cards as I could when they would come up. Some got small gains, a couple got medium gains. We even ended up with some losses.
I don’t think the game knew how to handle 3 sims getting branch promotions, cause when the 4 girls got home from work on Fri, only one got her promotion to pick a branch though three (sims A, C, and D) were due.
Upon saving and reloading, immediately, each reload, a new sim would get to pick a branch. So, Fri… all three sims did get their branch promotions. Sims A, C, and D. Sim B was still on lvl 6, as she got a med loss chance card Fri.

Sat - Sim B got her promotion, all girls lvl 7.
Sun (week 3, day 1) - Sim A got a small loss chance card, Sims C and D got a promotion to Lvl 8.
All girls were off Mon.
Tues -Sim A got her promotion to lvl 8.

Wed - Sims C and D got their lvl 9 promotions, Sim B got her lvl 8 promotion.
Sim C and D had Thurs off. All girls had Fri off.
Sat - Sim A got a promotion to lvl 9.
Sun - Sim A Small gain Chance Card; Sim B promoted to Lvl 9
All the girls are now level 9 (week 4, day 1) and had Mon and Tues off. Also, they only work Sun, Wed, and Sat. So I’ve put how many work days each sim spent in lvl 9 to get their last promotion, as well as week and day of maxed career.
Wed – Sim C and D maxed career (Day 3 for both)
Sat – Sim A maxed career.
Sun – Sim B maxed career.

Test Results:
Sim A (no reward, no perk): Week 4, Day 7… spent 3 days in Level 9
Sim B (Has reward, no perk): Week 5, Day 1… spent 3 days in Level 9
Sim C (Both Reward, and Perk): Week 4, Day 4… spent 3 days in Level 9
Sim D (No reward, Yes Perk): Week 4, Day 4… spent 3 days in Level 9

TL;DR Career Reward Trait (Entrepreneurial) and Career Club Perk (Networked) have no effect on careers and promotions. Chance Cards are the biggest factor in how slow or fast a sim gets promoted.
My sim with no reward trait and no perk spent the same amount of time in the career as a fully advantageous sim with both rewards and perks, save for one level when she got a bad chance card.
So what is the point of even having the reward trait or the club perk? If they do nothing, why bother telling us they do?
They need to be fixed where they actually do what they are designed to do. Otherwise, why have them in the game at all?

  • I think the results would be more telling if instead of tracking the amount of days to promote, you tracked the performance meter instead. This is because performance gains cap out and don't carry over to the next level.

Just to give an example of what I'm talking about, let's enumerate the amount of performance it takes to go from level 9 to 10 and say it's 1500.
If a normal sim gets 500 per day, and a sim with all the bonuses gets 700 per day, it will still take both sims 3 workdays to promote and the extra 600 that the second sim earned goes nowhere. So this might not necessarily mean the traits aren't doing anything. This may (or may not) be easier to see on sims that don't do the daily task, don't work hard, and don't go to work in the right mood. But yeah, it is totally possible that they just don't work properly.

Each time the performance meter maxed, they got promoted. So I'm not following why tracking the meter would be more beneficial. I don't really care how fast each meter is filled, only that is took all sims, regardless of traits, perks, or none, all spent the same amount of career/work days in the career, save for one day for Sim A and Sim B, when they spent an extra day in other levels cause of bad chance cards. So the "extra" means nothing, as they don't get extra performance past max to get promotion, regardless, in this game.

If Perk gives "700" a day, and reward gives "650" a day, and none gives "500" a day, and you need "1000" to promote, it's still gonna take all sims 2 days to promote, so, the rewards are useless as my sim without them will still promote on day 2. If they are gonna say a sim is more likely to get promoted with the reward trait, it should be true. And it's not.

It would better indicate the problem. Looking at days promoted wouldn't necessarily tell you whether or not the bonuses work, I explained why above. It might tell you whether or not they work the way you think they should work but that's not the conclusion stated in the original post, the conclusion was just that they don't work.

Yes, that's basically the same thing that I said. So the bonuses aren't noticeable in that situation. My point was more that the days might not be the same on sims who, perhaps goes to work in the wrong mood, or didn't have time to do the daily task a couple times along the way. It's possible that the bonuses won't make any practical difference for someone who is min-maxing but still have a good effect for people playing casually. Whether or not that's the case would require more testing :)

Feel free to test that. :) I provided an identical environment and there was no benefit among any reward or perk, therefore they aren't working to my knowledge and that's what I was wanting to know when I tested.
  • Do you think the reward trait would advance Sims whose owners/players are not as consistent in getting promoted? I have been suspicious if the entrepreneurial trait helped advanced job promotion, especially in the GTW careers; and I personally feel it definitely depends on a players effort and not so much good fortune obtained.
