Community Vaults and Banks

I'm trying to find information about the vaults and it's coming up short. In particular, I am curious about community banks. I have a sim with lot of money that is going to die soon. I had him put a bunch of funds into a community vault. Will someone be able to access this funds, or am I going to lose them? Also, I noticed in the write up for the bank lot that it mentioned storing your valuable items too. This particular vault goes red when I try to drag an item into it. Any suggestions or information on using the vaults would be most helpful. Thank you.

  • I made an early version of a bank for my save file because I had a sim with similar experience, made a ton of money from gardening. From what I've understood, the Duck Security vault is only for simoleons. I haven't had NPC sims break into my vaults on their own and you won't lose the simoleons. If you have an active sim break into the vaults then the owner of the vault loses the money. When the sim dies their money is still in the vault and ownership doesn't transfer to heirs, their children. But my sims spouse was able to access the vault without tripping the alarm. The only downfall about ownership not automatically transferring when the sim dies is that the money just sits there and you have to break in to access it. Your sim's children, or any other sim, can break into the vaults once they have high enough handiness skill. Hope this helps!

  • For storing valuables in a vault, I believe that refers to the vault doors available in build mode that you can use to turn any room into a vault.

I haven't used a vault yet, but I've read that you can lock and unlock them. Before your sim dies, are you able to unlock their vault and does that allow other household members to access the money?
  • It was suggested I try using a vault since I have a teen Sim who is now a Global Superstar. He's got fairly close to 100,000 Simoleans saved, so far. My question is this: Does anyone know if he can take the vault with him when he moves out of his parents' home? Or, if I have him remove the money will that just go into the lot funds like usual? I don't mind cheating him back the money, This system at least keeps tab on how much he's placed in it. Which is far easier for me in the long run.

I don't think you can take it with you unless you can place it in the sim's personal inventory, which I don't think you can. Once your sim moves out, try having him visit home and see if he can take the money out of the vault. I'd recommend saving right before doing this or using the "save as" feature just in case it doesn't work.

Thanks for the advice. I'm thinking it may just be easier to check the amount he's saved and use money cheats to give him that amount. He can always purchase another vault, if needed.
