I know there are already rabbithole bookstores in the game (maybe I am thinking of Sims 3 now that I think about it more than Sims 4) but in the small business vein could a sim setup their own active bookstore. Maybe even sell the books they write? Maybe you could design covers for the books and stage promotional events (book signings and meet and greets, book readings to promote sells)?
I think you can make a bookstore in a small business with Businesses and Hobbies but you can also create bookstore with the retail system from Get to Work. I'm not sure about the details though, ie selling your own books, etc. Rabbit hole bookstore are in Sims 3, not Sims 4.

Where would you get the inventory to put on sale? You would have to purchase single copies yourself and then mark them up and put them on those sales tables? Can you request copies of the books you have written yourself? i don't remember seeing that option anywhere.
Yes. Your sim can stock bookshelves with books they write. You can also use the display that looks like a bookshelf from GTW(counts as a retail surface) to sell the books. Your business activities would be to read and browse & buy.
You could make a library and charge hourly fees or you could take and buy books from a bookshelf and place them on retail surfaces.
If you don't have B&H this won't work unless you set up a retail shop with GTW.
You need either Business and Hobbies or Get To Work. Hope that helps!
How exactly do you order these books though? I looked under Purchase Gifts in the phone directory and I didn't see anything there. If I was in the Science Career and invented the Cloning machine I guess I could clone as many copies of anything for free. That would be a handy thing for a business.

It needs to be a retail option that you set up on a retail lot with Get To Work...or maybe Business and Hobbies if you want the business to be residential/ retail. 🙂
Edit: Get To Work retail lot will be more profitable over Business & Hobbies with my gameplay exploration. Restaurants are their own money making Animal/Machine and have nothing to do with Business and Hobbies when it comes to retail sales.🙂
