Discover University - Classes & Credits

This is my first time playing the University expansion pack. I have four young adults currently at university. When they aged up to the young adult stage i sent them all off to university. I chose their classes and electives and left them be on campus assuming they would progress while i switched back to my legacy household.

I switched back to them at the end of their first term two of them ended up on probation with F grades and the other two had D's & C's. It seems they hadn't been attending classes with story progression on. I re-enrolled all four of them and i built them a little student home (which has now turned in to a five bedroom mansion) so i could all manage them a little easier and four terms later they are still there.

Obviously i messed up the first term so for next time is there any help i can get so i can complete the university stage quickly?
  • Quite frankly I have two pieces of advice for you:

    1. Always focus only on a single Sim per University run.
    2. Turn off Aging (for that very reason) while in University.

And in this specific case I would drop out of Uni, Pause Aging, Re-enroll and start over.

It seems you did the same mistake as several Gamechanger Youtubers did when they did their Uni let's plays, trying to either juggle 2-4 Sims in different classes at once or even worse still playing their other households while having one Sim go to Uni.
This just doesn't work, because taking a Sim thru Uni is a full time commitment.

You MUST make sure they do their homework Every. Day. Otherwise they get bad grades. This has to be done manually or else they won't do them.
You MUST make sure they don't get late for classes. Same reason.
And you MUST make sure they write all their term papers / do their presentations and make sure they are of Good quality or better.

So again, leaving your Uni Sim to their own devices, or try to juggle another household or even another Sim at the same time? Not going to work.
Also, never do more than three courses in a "year" or you will have a miserable time.

I had one Sim just graduate. That's one down three to go. Thankfully for the other three there's less credits to make up this term. These Sims have been at university since the the second week of Spring, it's now the last week of Summer!

Big tip I play rotational too with uni (it’s my unexpected surprise pack for sims 4) but when you have sims in uni it’s best to play out the 7 day term and at the end not enroll them for the next term if you want to rotate households. If you rotate halfway through a term it’s a lottery with what your sim gets as a grade after that term. So my advice is play the term, don’t re-enroll, then rotate. The only downside to this is you loose any scholarships.
  • I have wrangled as many as six Sims at Uni (at a time). I placed them all in the very same Dorm at Britechester-U. I placed them there on the weekend, to allow for them to get a jump on their assignments. Being late for class, as already stated, is a bad thing. But it is also very helpful for you to select either actively listening, or better still, take notes. Click on the little icon, as you would work, or school, to find the selections. Also, as stated get those term papers done, edit the heck out of them until you achieve excellent or outstanding (can't remember which is the the highest) but the game will let you know that no more improvement can be done. Then turn it in! Also, get those boards done. Take the time to do the very best that can be done on said board. Ask for opinions and then rearrange the data. Once you get it to outstanding, it's ready to be presented. Check for a time after 8 AM when your Sim has a much later class to present it. Or use the time after the last class of that day (as long as it's before 5 PM) to send your Sim to make their presentation. Do this BEFORE the end of the term.

Not to brag, because I made my share of mistakes the first couple of times through, too. I finally learned it was possible for the students to take 4 hard core classes. This will eliminate the elective. But, it means they are done after three Terms, too. I would turn aging off, too, as was already mentioned. That way you don't lose much of their young lives to their education. Plus, you might not lose older relatives while they're in school.

All six of my Sims graduated with Honors. Erik Cantrell (my Global Superstar) had all 'A's each of the three Terms. In fact all did well, plenty of 'A's all around. Find your rhythm, keep your game on pause as you check just what each student under your control has to do and then go for it. Nothing wrong if you want to take just one through at first. I started with the siblings because I only wished to go through it the one time. LOL Good luck to you. In the end I found it so much fun, too. Just remember that pause button is your friend.

I lucked out my first sim's time at Uni, as I accidently enrolled at the end of the week. She got the whole weekend to do her term paper and presentation, for every term. She managed to pull off graduating with straight A's for a distinguished degree in Art History, while keeping her work from home career in the trendsetter field. That first term was a horrible pain in the rear. She did much better when I moved her out of student housing and had her live alone. Yeah, she missed out on a whole bunch of student activities, but since she was just focused on getting a degree to further her career, it worked out well. Her story line was that she was a little bit older than the other students, and had gone back to school after working for a few years.

The only problem I had was that during the last term, I had to take away her bicycle. I would send her to class, and she would get there just a little bit early. She would promptly get on the bicycle and ride around for about half a hour. She was late for multiple classes as there was no option for me to end her ride.

By that last term, I had learned how to make my sim behave as a good student, and managed to send her to some pep rallies and debates. Her trendsetter job pretty much just meant talking to 3 sims a day about fashion, blogging, or taking 3 photos, so that was easy to add in. During the last term, she had a couple of games of juice pong, flirted with the mascot, and celebrated my "Hot Times" holiday by streaking around campus on graduation day.

My advice is to start at the end of the week if you can as it helps so much with time management.

In this run I had four sims. My twins Tommy and Sienna, Tommy's wife Miki and Miki's brother Taku. Tommy, Taku and Sienna have all graduated now and Miki has one more term left. All four sims started University mid Spring and we are now in to the first week of Fall.

The first point is where i went wrong. I had two Sims at Foxbury and the other two at Britechester. That's why i built the student home so i could manage them all at once. That has been going well. One Sim has 9 out of 12 credits and this term they're doing four classes and i think i was able to choose an elective for them. I'm guessing with that Sim they'll graduate after this new term?

I'm getting there with the graduations now. Just one more to go then I can explore the next stages of my Sims life's. If i do send anymore to University in the future I know how to manage it a bit more for next time.
