Dorm Rooms?

Anybody else get annoyed with the dorm rooms? I mean they are a fun idea and everything it's just a pain I think, trying to find stuff to do with your Sim when they aren't in class and it's harder to get stuff to eat. I know that they can go to the commons and stuff but that's just kind of a pain sometimes. This time, I'm having my Sim try university from home since I want her to go to university to become a food critic, figured she'd need to practice cooking somehow to pass classes. But am I the only one who finds them a bit annoying?

I just started playing with a sim who moved into a dorm. When the commons food station was open, I had him buy extra meals to store in the mini fridge. Now I see other Sims in the dorm leaving platters of food all over, so my sim takes some and stores it in the fridge. He's not going hungry.

He's been keeping busy with computer games, ping pong, and his new girlfriend.
  • the no kitchen equipment rule is really annoying me
not only cause I'm european and we know no such rule
but also cause the cafeteria worker shouting is most annoying thing

+since it extends to outdoor cooking its really ruining my "homeless student" campsites

I agree that the lack of ovens in university accommodation is a real pain. When I lived in halls, we had a basic but full kitchen. I downloaded a mod to allow kitchens in dorms and the university housing lots and it seemed to work at first but I noticed in my current save that it broke the way the lots function in terms of having the necessary items, so they constantly showed as unfinished. I uninstalled the mod in the end. :(
  • My thoughts exactly! The dorm life is a fun option, but the fact that they can't have a kitchen is what annoys me and when my Sim is done with homework there's like no activities at all for them to do. The fact that other Sims keep bugging my Sim is really annoying too. I've tried the locked door thing but either it was buggy for me or it just wasn't working right and annoyed me. I do like to have my Sim do that experience though just feel like the dorm rooms and stuff was better in Sims 3.

I have attempted dorm living a couple of times, and it is indeed frustrating. Homework and term papers take forever when roommates are continually queuing up social interactions. Locking your dorm room is the only way to assure privacy at any hour. Roommates unload tray after tray of cooked food, so much more than can possibly be eaten, most of it spoils and is thrown away untouched. And they all stagger around on the brink of exhaustion, unshowered, doing the need-to-pee crab-walk.

My Sims ended up getting their own places, and finishing their degrees from home. I mean, it's kind of a crazy challenge to try to make a go of it, but I am more interested in simply getting my Sims good grades.
