I want breakfast in my school-age sims before they leave the house, and I don't want to get them up at 5 AM.
Showers can be upgraded for speedier use. Meals can't.
Get a mod for slower meals, if you need one. I don't have the time.
My sims linger and gather to socialize anyway. I don't have to force it. Call to Meal still works fine, especially if the table's been set.
Good for you. :)
Just a tiny problem there.. or 2..
1) there seems not to be any.
2) Console players cannot.
And as I said, I was thinking eating was too slow in many situations before. But when it comes to nerfing, why does these things always be nerfed too much."Hearts4u;c-17988095" wrote:

They will never ever be able to please everyone. Before, people complained it took too long (I did; I hated how long showering and eating took and I'm glad they nerfed it.) Now, people complain it's too short.
I don't have issues with socializing during family meals or dinner parties. My sims sit at the table and chat nonstop while eating their meals. If you are multitasking, then eating will be longer.
For family meals, set up the table beforehand. Instead of call to meal, use pick up serving and drag the plates from your inventory to the table. Then, have your sims sit at the table and eat and chat.
For dinner parties, I move the meals to the center of the table. I gather everyone into a group, then have the group sit at the table. While the group is chatting, I call to meal and they all grab a serving from the table and eat.
At least for me, eating together is still one of my main social activities for my family and friends. I personally do not think it's too short; I think it's perfect the way it is now.
Before they changed this, the player did not have to do all of that. All that was needed was the call to meal. So now the player has to jump through hoops to get everyone to the table.
I'm not one of those players who felt this needed to be changed. It was fine the way it was. At least, I was able to enjoy it while it lasted.
It's just a couple extra seconds of work. You can still just use call to meal if you gather everyone at the table first. People keep complaining how family meals just aren't possible anymore, and they are possible... just a couple extra clicks and that's it. It takes me like 5-10 extra seconds of work, and then my sims can enjoy their family meal together.
I have family meals all the time. Do you know how cumbersome it has become to do all these couple of extra clicks that was not required before? The point you are missing is that before the nerf all that was needed was--Call to Meal."LittleFox2;c-17988100" wrote:

Not the point that I was making. I did not have to do any extra work before the feature was nerfed. Now I have to do extra clicks/work every time its dinner time instead of just clicking Call to Meal.
I'm so tired of things being nerfed in the game.
I think it's safe to say we can all agree to disagree. The point that was being made was that some people find that eating speed was nerfed too much, and now eating together and doing food interactions are more difficult to do. I simply just disagree with that. I don't find doing a couple of extra clicks too cumbersome, even in my larger households. But, I've made my point so there's no need for me to continue on and on about it.- Ancaryvan4 years agoSeasoned AceThe main reason that meal time get shorter is "Sims Take Too Many Time Socialising BUT Neglect Eating". By design, if Sims starts social in meal time, 80% of time talking 20% take One bite. Hence meal time take Too~~~ Long...
- VWoodsong4 years agoSeasoned AceMaybe there was an office presentation chart that showed a vertical line indicating "Slow" at the bottom and "Fast" at the top. Maybe this is the gist of all fix-it meetings that use such presentations:
Meeting leader: "Ok, so we seem to be currently stuck at Slow. How do we proceed?"
Everybody points to the top item while nodding at each other as they point.
Meeting leader: "But what about something between?"
Everybody else seems baffled and says, "But... there's nothing in between. What are you even on about?" - Lolzarella4 years agoSeasoned AceI think it took way too long to eat a meal before and my sims used to be late for work/school all the time or they'd have to leave with their hunger bar still in the yellow or red. My sims socialize a lot while doing different activities and they still socialize at the table but taking hours to eat every meal was obnoxious and I'm glad they sped it up.
Now, pretty please with sugar on, how about a Quick Shower option? You know, for those mornings you're running late? (after whooping it up at the karaoke bar until 3 am or dancing the night away with your besties). - Beardedgeek724 years agoSeasoned Ace

Before they changed this I went crazy trying to get my Sims to frakking stop eating already. Same with showers. - logionX4 years agoLegendI prefer it the way they eat now, I thought it took too long before but I know there are people that like it when they eat slower. If you are a family player then I can see how maybe they are eating a bit too fast now, but to be honest I thought it was always tricky to get all sims to sit down and eat family dinner.
Getting them all to engage in conversation usually works and still work for me, they will finish their meal faster but they tend to keep talking at the table.
I don't think showering should be faster, you are supposed to upgrade the shower if you want them to shower faster. - DoloresGrey4 years agoSeasoned AceI am glad that sims eat faster now however if the interaction "Call to meal" is used they should eat as long as they used to before it was nerfed.
- I didn't know they nerfed this. This will be yet again another reason I will probably never return to updating this game.
Let's look at it from my angle. All they had to do was nerf multitasking. AKA musical chairs and multitasking stopping chewing to look at something on the wall.
I pay strict attention to animations, and the two main problems for those who felt it took too long was because of those two things. Whether it was with a single Sim at a table and or a household at the table. The two main things were playing musical chairs and stopping to look at something. Here is the thing, people don't stop chewing while they look up at pots hanging from the ceiling. But TS4 Sims do..therefore it added to the time to finish. I have no idea why they continue to build a simulation if players just want to click and be done and move on so they can get to something else like gaining a skill and or leveling up. This game has been nerfed so badly in so many of the areas that reflect life that it can hardly be called a life simulator if a player can just click on something and move on. What is the point of set table now? Nothing. - babajayne4 years agoSeasoned Ace

If they nerfed multitasking, I would be so upset. It’s the best feature in The Sims 4. Going back to previous games feels like torture without multitasking. What a step back. No.
