- mariefoxprice836 years agoSeasoned AceI have definitely noticed that electronics raise fun much more quickly than reading, playing chess and all those other things. I am also gutted that painting doesn't raise fun. I did download a mod to make practising magic fun but it should have been part of the base game.
- Sims in the second game had their motives influenced by the personality point system. Sims with high neatness had their hygiene need decay slower whilst sloppy Sims had it decay faster. Outgoing Sims saw their social need decay faster, lazy Sims had energy decay slower due to inactivity and so on.
Fun was tied to playfulness and seriousness. Sims who were playful gained much more fun from playing games with other Sims whilst Sims who were serious gained far less, preferring activities like reading, chess or using equipment like telescopes. They chose such activities over TV and similar things (which granted less fun, unless it was the news station). Neat Sims also gained fun from cleaning.
3's fun motive was obviously affected by traits in a lot of ways. They determined their favourite activities, TV channels, variations and more. The fact you could make some Sims actively despise TV and other electronics was an interesting choice to have too.
From 1 to 3 painting was fun for everyone regardless of personality. Some simply enjoyed it more than others.
In 4 it really does feel like every Sim is yanked towards electronics, it's all very samey, and the fact that the common sense elements that 1 to 3 go right aren't carried over is annoying. - A lot of the creative activities do not provide any fun, which doesn't make much sense to me, as a creative, because I DO have fun painting and crafting and writing, while my sims just don't. Even if they have traits that would facilitate loving to be creative, they still don't like it*.
*as much as they like playing phone games or watching tv lol - MVWdeZT6 years agoSeasoned AcePainting is fun for Sims with the creative trait. Playing a musical instrument is fun. Writing is not fun, but they can listen to music simultaneously. Gardening is actually fun now once you get your Sim to level 3, I think.
- For me, it seems just about right. If anything, there should be an option to do something "for fun".
For example, painting should be fun, but isn't. Why? Because you're trying to make a buck, What if you could draw for fun? Level up skill, increase fun, but the result will not cost anything or very little,
Otherwise, no. I don't think it's broken. It's actually pretty decent, IMO. - Duhgirl2u26 years agoSeasoned AceI don't believe its broken per say... I just think it needs a bit of tweaking and attention. Things like painting...I have absolutely 0 artistic ability IRL and I still enjoy getting messy and making awful art :D It just seems to me like many things that should be fun for sims is specifically fun to only some sims, and even then, the fun gain is so small...
- DoloresGrey6 years agoSeasoned AceI agree. And the social need as well.
- I don't think it's broken, I'm just puzzled how doing things that would be fun in real life don't fill up the bar. On the other hand, it's also weird that the sims have fun regardless of which channel they watch. When was it ever fun to watch the news (especially now)? xD

But why is it only fun for sims that have the trait? In real life people can find activities fun without being overly invested in the subject of what they focus on for instance I'm not a painter but I still probably would find painting a fun activity to do. "MVWdeZT;c-17429748" wrote:

Baking isn't fun, even for foodies.
