I've noticed that on lots I've just built and even ones I'm playing, objects will just disappear! I was playing a restaurant and had some sims sit at a table then give it up and the booth then disappe...

Sharing is Caring would be my best bet too. It causes all sims to be kleptomaniacs and at least in my game they go for surfaces mostly.
