So let me see if I got this right…
Law makers think that being gay is wrong so they create laws to ban same sex marriages and the promotion of same sex marriages in their country
EA thinks the laws are wrong so they won’t sell the pack in that country
Game changers think that EA’s decision is wrong so they won’t make any videos using the pack
So same sex couples can now not only not get married or play the wedding pack, but also not see any videos using the pack. And all this is somehow for the benefit of non-heterosexual couples in that country?
According to people who have explained it already EA could have released the pack easily with a 18+ tag on the cover
That's not how it works sadly, they'd have to fully cover the "offending" imagery with the 18+ tag for it to be allowed on any distribution site (like Origin/Steam) in these countries. For example not a game but if you look at the example of Lorde's Solar Power album, the artwork can only be displayed in stores and certain countries if the "offending" part is covered, they can't just slap an age rating on the corner and then it's ok. The offending part of the image in this case was her butt being visible, so to distribute it in a lot of places they've had to cover it up either with a sticker or lens blurhttps://video-images.vice.com/_uncategorized/1623416557256-screenshot-2021-06-11-at-50643-pm.png

@Onverser Yes, thanks for clarifying. I changed my post when I read your comment earlier. - XxAirixX4 years agoSeasoned Ace

Hey guys,
So as you know a lot of the very big EA Gamechangers (Plumbella and so on) have decided not to cover the new pack and not post reviews, let's plays etc.
Now, you don't have to agree with them and you can openly express disagreement with their decision but I have seen a lot of comments in the forums saying that the Gamechangers are withholding content from people or that this is some kind of blackmail towards viewers and even that they should be kicked off the program.
I understand your frustration but
First, the content they create is free for all viewers and they had neither promised the content nor had we paid them in advance to make content for this pack. As far as I understand most of us watch their content for free, knowing that they will post whatever they feel like posting. They do not owe you anything. They are allowed to create any type of content they want and it is 100% their property, not the viewers'.
Then, people are mentioning that since they are getting the pack for free then they are obligated to make content for it. That could be true but we don't know the exact circumstances. Unless you have read their contracts with EA you cannot know what responsibilities they have to fulfill so my tip for you is to stay out of it. This is between them and EA and we as bystanders don't have any knowledge to be making accusations.
Finally, some people's behavior in this forum is unbelievable. You cannot go around public forums calling people hypocrites, accusing them of blackmailing you or saying they should be kicked off the Gamechangers program. That is neither constructive nor a decision you have the power to make.
So, while we all have the right to express our opinion it is very important to remember that we have no right to be telling creators what to do and how to act especially when we get their content for free and they have no obligation towards us.
I think the issue people have is that they get the game for free to promote it and talk about. That is their job and technically they are refusing to do their job (if it was any other job, you can be fired for refusing to do so). People wouldn't care so much if they had to pay for the game themselves like everyone else.
I say if people really want to do be political, do it on their own time. That goes for all jobs and businesses as there is a time and place for everything. - SimmerGeorge4 years agoSeasoned Ace

@XxAirixX Again it's not really a job. It's more of a sponsorship and like I said we don't know if they really have to do it. Maybe some Game Changers refused to gain early access all together. We can't be blaming people for what we don't know for sure.
Also if someone has the right to complain it is EA. Since we are not providing them with any money and are not their customers or their employers I don't think we have a right to be telling them what to do.
My stance on this topic. It has nothing to do with me so I can stay out of their decision. - I am in favor for the GC's choices either way. Most are (as far as know) only asking for the Sims team to clarify the situation or give further information; not that radical to request that.
Of course, if EA/Sims teams chooses to omit giving them free copies in the future; that's their right to do as well.
Gamechangers are just free publicity for EA/Sims team. Like we'll get free info on the pack upon its release eventually. The biggest hindrance is just the wait time; an incoveniance. - Daravi4 years agoSeasoned Ace

Maybe it's selfish but I really hope some will still do it. We saw quite literally nothing from the live so I'd like to see more of the pack before buying it
Thank you, I thought the same. The livestream left me very undecided behind and unfortunately, right now, there is no chance to get more informations out of the simgurus, because every guru will clearly get overwhelmed by the russia decision, like in a whack-a-mole game. I understand somehow the gamechangers, but it left a bitter taste in my mouth. They, the gamechangers, got an early access to promote/review the coming gamepack and now they deny to do so. - JaggidEdje4 years agoSeasoned Ace

That's pretty much my reason for taking issue with it. Any GC that gets the game pack for free, and then opts to "voice their dissent" by participating in this "boycott" (so to speak) is more of a >:) >:) >:) than EA/Maxis, imo. At least EA/Maxis is suffering the consequences of their choice (no money from selling the pack in Russia).
Now, if they are declining the free pack, that's a different story, and I fully support and applaud their choice to do what they think is right at their own expense. But if they are doing it while still getting the pack for free, they are grandstanding or showboating, to score political points for themselves...while still collecting their "rewards" from the other side. Not cool. - Its crazy to see being a simmer since Sims 1 to see the Sims now being involved in multiple political controversies. Like the SIMS of all things!

They are literally getting paid (in this case, with free items) to promote and talk about. EA isn't just going to give games away for free as they are a business. game changers are supposed to talk about the games. Same with Sponsorships. You are sponsored to help support that company. They are basically advertisers. It isn't fair that they get free stuff while refusing to promote it afterwards.
When you agree to their terms, you are agreeing to show off and promote their products to others. So yes, I think we do have the right as we are consumers, we are the ones that are paying.
