Gameplay Questions - Help Appreciated

Hi

As a new player of The Sims 4, I would appreciate assistance from the community with questions that arise. I will update the original post once questions have been answered or when new ones crop up.

Thanks!

Questions:

10. Aspirations - how do they work?
I have a Sim couple that I am currently playing with, got "long" age settings and just getting grips with how to play. I played through the tutorial and passed the tutorial aspiration and now I've selected one that I think might be fun.
He has bodybuilder and she has creativity painter.
As I work through the requirements I got a helpful tip in a loading screen - "swap aspirations without losing progress" - ideal, so I read through the entire list and pick another. Fortune - for her and Romance - for him.
I've got §25000 in the bank so the first bit gets ticked off easy. They're a couple so the first requirement for romance does too. I make him ask her on a date which passes superbly...He now has 1/2 dates requirement. I decide, two birds one stone and select Romance for her as well...date requirement 2/2...why!?

The question is - some aspirations track perfectly, others not so much...should I click through each aspiration for both Sims and then it'll track, or is it only the live aspiration that tracks? If that it the case, why was Fortune still tracking?

Answered:

1. Aging - is this game like TS2 or TS3? - Depends on settings.

2. Progression - is this game like TS2 or TS3? - TS2 unless Mods used.

3. Neighbourhoods - apparently, unlike its predecessors, this game allows all neighbourhoods to be linked within one save game? How does that work? Can my Sims live in one n/hood but travel between the others? - Yes. All neighbourhoods can be connected within one saved game.

4. Autonomy - what do my neighbours do while I play one specific family? Is it different for previously played households in comparison to never before played ones? - Skill build and Socialise unless Mods used.

5. How many venues are Rabbit Holes? - None.

6. What do you do with gravestones? TS2 and TS3 had community lots for them, but TS4 does not. - Placed outside as Gravestones, inside as Urns or moved to Community Lot.

7. Can you place Sim Inventory items on Community Lots? - Yes. Drag and Drop or "Place in World".

8. What is the purpose of the Work Daily Task (Base Game)? Can a Sim still be promoted without completing the task? - Assists with relevant skill building and work performance. Promotion still possible without it.

9. Where are the cars? Sims walk everywhere! No Taxis, no carpool and no ownership! I've seen them driving passed on the main strip but there are none present in Build / Buy. - Not currently introduced in the game. Sad times 😔

Hey @Alwe1507, I can't answer all your questions (1 and 2), but I can answer most of them.

    3. Yes, sims can live in one neighborhood and travel to another. Use the phone and click the button with a little car on it. There should be an option that says "travel," that's the one you want. It will take you to the map of the world your in. There should be a button in one of the corners that has a globe on it. If you click that, you can select any world you want to go to!

    4. Neighbors don't do much. They build skills. There are mods to change this though, like MCCC.

    5. None! There are houses that are set dressing, but since you can't click on them at all I don't consider them rabbit holes. You can enter all the building types in-game.

Okay, I'm going to try to answer 1 and 2. I can't promise they're accurate because I've never played TS2 or TS3, but...

    1. You have three life spans you can choose from in the options menu- short, normal and long. It's up to you to decide what you like, I personally prefer normal.

    2. There is no story progression except for skill-building without mods.

    @nerdfashion

    Thank you for your response!

    3. That actually sounds pretty cool. I usually play large rotational saves so how I'm reading your response is that I can have a playable household on one "world" and within that same saved game, have a second playable household on a second "world"?

    4. Good. One of the worst aspects of TS3 IMHO!

    5. That's also good news. Another rubbish aspect from TS3!

Just referencing aging and story progression - TS2 only allowed the active household to age and progress, so as the player you were in complete control. TS3 was neighbourhood-wide aging and progression - your active household aged and the whole rest of the neighbourhood did too, at the same rate!

Okay. The Sims 4 is a mix of the two, you can choose which households age in settings.

Sounds like a choice. Happy times!!

    6. Typically, gravestones are placed on your home lot either outside on grass/dirt/sand terrain if you want a gravestone or on some other flooring/table/shelf/dresser if you want an urn. But there are some workarounds- people have made "graveyard" lots and posted one on the gallery. I did this as well, if you'd like I'll gladly link it.

    7. It depends on the item. If you're on a lot, you can click and drag an item from your inventory onto the ground. If you're not on a lot, you can click on it in your inventory and select "Place in World." I prefer to click and drag because I can't choose where the item will go otherwise. This is actually how I move gravestones into "graveyards," I drag the grave into my sims inventory, have them travel to a graveyard, and click/drag the gravestone into the desired position.

Thank you. Might build my Grave Yard this evening ☺
  • 8. The daily work task makes you build skills necessary to your career and aids in the speed of promotion. You can get promoted without doing /completing all tasks but your progress can be slower unless you are in the right mood for job performance.

Thank you. I am on the highest green for performance and have the two skills required but don't have time to complete the daily task before I send my Sim to work. Promotion here I come ??
  • There are no functioning cars in the Sims 4. The ones you see driving are just FX effects. If you stand in the road with your sim, occasionally a car will just drive through you.

And yes, there are no carpools to work. There are no school buses to school. There are no taxis to go out to a community lot.

And tbh I dont think there will ever be. Some worlds just don't really support it. Where is a school bus suppose to drive to pick your kids up on the Windenburg island? There's no road. Just small dirt trails. Nevermind the fact that it's an island so a school bus showing up wouldn't even make sense.

Thank you for the response. That is so disappointing to me. I know cars don't serve a great deal of purpose but I've always enjoyed their inclusion...
