For those who are still struggling to get their children/teens Sims an A in school, here is what the book says:ELEMENTARY SCHOOL:To go from C to BGet 2 skills to level 4, attend school while focused. To go from B to A:Get 4 skills to level 4, do extra credit 3 times. HIGH SCHOOLTo go from C to B:Attend school while focusedTo go from B to A:Do extra credit 3 timesI haven't found anything about how to do extra credit, but if/when I do I'll revise this post. In the game it's not attend school when focused, it's attend school when energized. Maybe they changed it after the guide was made, I don't know. But it's definitely energized now.

Also, the information needed for getting to the next level (in school or at work) are always listed in the work section of the UI. It tells you exactly what you need to do to get the next promotion/grade level.

Incidentally, all the requirements listed at the top of this post are shown in the kid's career tab (and which you need to progress to the next grade), so they're easy to look up in-game.

The book was wrong on the C to B portion of elementary school. In game it shows the goals, and it says get 2 skills to level 4 and attend school energized for my kids.
