Getting started with Horses? How to pick my first horse?

I know very little about horses, either real or Sim. I am looking forward to adopting two or three into a ranch build where they will be kept by some of my favorite Sims.

The ranch is all ready. I just need to figure out what bred/s, maybe who has the best horses on the Gallery. Where to get started...

The breeds are just aesthetic, they don't give any special traits to the horse. I made my own horse, it was faster than trawling through all the horses and unicorns on the gallery. This way you can choose traits and then work on their skills.
  • just ask your heart which horse sparks most joy :)

    realistically though as ex horsegal
I would probably go by region/activities I plan to do with the horse

even if it technically does not matter in the sims

for example I wouldn't really do much jumping with draft horses

and if say my sim is in Henford then I might consider what are popular horse breeds in England and such

Good start, thanks Folks. So, will be making my own in CAS

@Simmingal This ranch is set up with a large converted barn with four indoor horse bed and another two outdoors. Then the is a space with a basic jump and the barrels for training. Location is the 50x50 in Chestnut Ridge.
I think this family breds the horses and gives some training…
    So, they’ll need a pair to start…
  • What I did (it's been hot enough that I haven't played as much as I want) is I bought a horse with a lot of easy going traits to be my sims' "Learn to Ride" horse. He's mellow, friendly, and I forgot the third trait, but it was also a positive.

Then I rescued a foal, which my child sim is doing most of the primary care for, which will be hers.

My over all plan is to get everyone decent to good at horseback riding, and then focus on rescuing and "rehabilitiating" horses. (read: training up their temperment) Yes, I'll be selling them again, but I can decide that for story purposes, they're going to a good home. But those first two horses will stay.
