Granite Falls vacations... what I am missing?

I sent my Sims there, and promptly regretted my decision. Seriously, what do your Sims do over there? There isn't even an option for my adult Sims to read to their kids! No chessboard, nothing...

Short of playing horseshoes, fishing and grilling hotdogs, what do you do? They didn't even get any whims associated to that place...

you can also edit those lots before sending sims to camp at them. to add kid/toddler stuff, computers (though that kind of spoils the camping feel, but it's your game. *shrug*), or otherwise make them feel more...whatever you want them to feel like. but yes, camping is often used to 'get away' from it all. no (or few) electronic devices, fishing, hiking, poking at random things in the woods and such. i enjoy sending various sims to do this, usually outdoorsy ones, but occasionally some of the more tech or business oriented ones, just to realize what it's like to be away from all the constant go-go-go that is their lives...

i've replaced one of the cabin lots with 'the cabin', a restaurant found on the gallery that fits the area perfectly. waitstaff dresses like lumberjacks, the food is what i'd expect for camping, with perfectly greasy diner food added in, bears and stuff like that (i've edited it to add most of the feathers from cats and dogs. just skipped the few that wouldn't fit, like puffin and parrot)

i do enjoy granite falls, especially for certain types of sims, but yeah, i'd like more options (hopefully that one coming within the next few months, but we'll see...). aside from the types i've listed above, i'll also send some of my more 'witchy' types here to work on the related ambition while they work on their herbalism skill, or families with lots of kids, since this is the only place (without mods) to catch insects, and i know i loved doing that as a kid...

I put in a small cheap TV -- my family used to rent a cabin and it would have all the old stuff that the cabin owner stuck there. One year we got a cabin that had a closet full of board games and that was really fun. Depending on the size of the cabin I'll add a Don't Wake the Llama (from GT) table for family game night (they convert to card tables if you click on them). I'll put in one of the small portable radios for dancing. And of course there's the firepit for storytelling. I have one small cabin where I added a lot of easels for my painter Sims to have a retreat and paint the landscape from reference. I also added a restaurant, Stanley's Bar and Grill (replaced the campsite since camping was buggy) and a spa (replaced one of the cabin lots) for when I send married couples for a getaway.

Currently I have a single Sim who is a gardener and about to start on the Herbalism skill, so I'm planning on sending her to collect as much stuff as possible. (Her ultimate goal is to complete as many collections as possible before passing the task on to the next generation; if I don't marry her off she'll probably adopt a child when she hits Adult so they'll age up to Teen before she ages up to Elder. I kind of like the idea of playing a spinster Sim who has no interest in marriage/children. (Originally thought of marrying her to one of the game-spawned vampires or to the Liam O'Dourke Sim I just added into the game, but I've changed my mind now.)
  • It was boring for me at first but it’s great for screenshots and it can be fun if you use your imagination lol

I usually take short vacations there with my sims so it doesn’t drag. I definitely think the next vacation GP they come out with will be better considering GF was the first one they ever did.
  • I've gone there for challenges and stuff and I think they did a nice job on the world for the most part. My complaint is that there is nothing in the current lots for toddlers or pets so I'll have to redo those.

What I'm finding from doing these challenges where I can only control one sim is that if you leave the other sims alone, they'll find stuff to do like horse shoes or whatever. Also, I've had my main sim form groups and they all go fishing or hang out at the campfire.

It's not my favorite world and I don't like having to edit the lots to make them functional, but I can deal.

I've edited the lots to add more activities & that makes it a little more fun & family friendly, but most of the time I just send a single sim by themself to gather collectibles, many of which are unique to GF.
  • I've sent my Sims to Granite Falls two (maybe three) times, since I got Outdoor Retreat. In ALL instances, I had a fire that broke out of the fire pit and was unable to extinguish it! I tried clicking on the fire and select "extinguish". My Sim went to the fire but the action cancelled out. I tried "go here" (next to fire), THEN do the "extinguish" but ended up crashing my game!

After that, I never went back to Granite Falls! Most likely, I never WILL go back either!

Because of that, I took one of the smaller lots and changed it to a cafe/community pool that they can go to. The cafe part looks like picnic style with a few tables and couches inside. I made the pool have a green hue with plants and rocks around it. I included music and games like chess, dart throwing, etc. I also fixed up one of the bigger homes to have toddler options for families. Of course, There are always things I wish they could've included, like the action of them actually making the tent, hammocks, swimming in the lake, getting in the lake with a tire swing and canoes, trailer parks, flapjacks, or games like axe throwing. :|

Anyways, since I fixed it up with the options I did have, I do enjoy going there a little more now that my sims have more things to do other than go to the forest and collect bugs, fish, and harvestables. o:)

I may have to remodel Stanley's to add a basement game room -- that sounds like a great idea.
  • I also have built a restaurant with horseshoes and a small pool. I called it Granite Falls Hideaway, since I meant it as a place where Sims can go socialize if they are finding the rustic camping in tents a bit too much. It's on the Gallery, my Origin ID is GreenRocket. Most of my Sims like to stay in a cabin and enjoy luxury among nature.
  • I had my sims visit once and didn't know how to leave. Not to mention a lot of my sims got stuck in the washroom.

Isn't the point of granite falls is to be on vacation without modern stuff like computers and TV's?
