You do realize that what you've observed in shops and the gaming habits of your younger associates (from one of your previous postings) does not represent the true Simming demographic, right? The first two Simmers I knew and who got me hooked on the game back in 2001 were otherwise hard-core first-person-shooting console-gaming *males*. I recall the quote from one of them that sold me into trying the game for myself is "The Sims is addicting ..." If I went by my own limited observations, I'd be generalizing that console-gaming young men make up the majority of Simmers.
There is a huge difference between generalizing from just a couple of your own friends to what I observed. I visited a lot of game stores and book stores who in those days sold games too. But everywhere I saw the same and I wondered about the same thing: Why were all those young girls suddenly so interested in this new game (TS1) which didn’t interested neither me or any of the male customers at all?
Later I saw the same every time a new EP had been released: Young girls looking at the box and discussing it with exited voices. Sometimes only with eachother and sometimes with an older women which I thought was the mother to one of them. But I never saw women who weren’t just teens look at those boxes unless they were accompanied by one or two young girls and I never saw any males looking at the boxes either.
One or two times I looked at the boxes myself just to see what all the fuss was about. But it only made me understand why none of all the males who I usually met in those stores ever were interested in TS1 or its expansions because the graphics was ugly and outdated and the game looked like something back from the 1980s.
So the only thing that I agree about is that I can’t generalize to the whole world because I only looked at stores in Denmark where TS1 had a 7+ rating while it had a T rating in the US. So maybe parents in the US wouldn’t let their young girls get the game like all Danish parents did? I don’t know. But here in Denmark it was the young teen girls who got the game and I heard btw also once or twice some employee in one of the stores say the same."Erpe;c-16245426" wrote:
We aren’t in contact with the top producer anymore like we were in the Sims 2 days. Do you remember Sam Player (aka MaxoidSam) from the Sims 2 forum? He was a top producer for TS2 and its expansions like you can see on http://www.mobygames.com/developer/sheet/view/developerId,38549/ But he left and is now Head of Product Management at Sports Illustrated Play. But even as Senior Producer and Executive Producer he was very active in the Sims 2 forum and I still remember his frustrations when the ESRB considered to change TS2’s rating from T to M. ”It is just Barbie dolls without genitals!” he wrote.
Our problem is IMO that TS4 is even more targeted at very young girls than the previous games were. But we aren’t such young girls and therefore don’t share all their dreams about an easy life with only romance, happiness, partying in focus. Therefore we can’t enjoy TS4 in the same way and I am alas also not too optimistic about future Sims games which I expect also mainly to have the same target group.
I don't remember seeing that I didn't forums until the Sims 4, so I do have to rely on others how old forums were like. Sims 4 is actually rated M in some countries but for other reasons. I do think the Sims 4 is by far the safest iteration yet and honestly think the T rating is being generous with this version. If I had to compare it to other age appropriate games, it would be closer to E10 games.- 'Sam Player' did not hold the executive producer spot like Lyndsay Pearson holds today with Maxis. He was a Maxiod/Guru. He was a lower level producer who worked on BV and some other things and moved on to work on MySims.

You seem to be right. Sam Player was the executive producer of the Sims 2: Apartment Pets for Nintendo DS but “only” a senior producer on the Sims 2 basegame and on almost all its expansions. The executive producer for the Sims 2 PC game was first Lucy Bradshaw and later Rod Humble.
Lucy Bradshaw was also a Vice President for Maxis.- ADashofAsh90Seasoned VanguardI'm excited! I've been wanting Seasons and witches/magic school type system. Idk if we'll ever get the latter, but crossing my fingers for Seasons sooner rather than later. I've been loving the twists on requested stuff. I personally don't want to play the same game/expansions every 5+ years, it's refreshing to have new content while touching on fan favorites. :)

Your daughter isn’t typical for two reasons:
1. She already has TS3 and TS4 and therefore doesn’t need to convince her parents (who usually aren’t simmers) to let her get the games. She already has them and knows them.
2. The target group is mainly 10 to 14 years olds who already are quite good readers and therefore can read the texts in the game. But your daughter is likely a little too young for this.
EA has attempted to renew the game and its expansions. But mostly for the sales videos which now are happier than earlier and show a lot of funny behavior. This is intended to sell the game and it seems to work quite well such that TS4 and its expansions now seem to sell as well as TS3 and its expansions did. But we know that the forum users can’t be the reason because a lot of them have stopped playing or returned to TS3. Therefore the reason must be that the young (mainly girls) in the target group wants the game and all its expansions just to try them out and to see all this funny behavior in their own game. They likely just don’t play the game long enough to become bored with all the repetions like most of us here do. Instead they just stop playing for a while when they have seen the things that amuses them and wait for the next free update or expansion. If this wasn’t true then how would you otherwise explain the high sales numbers for TS4 which now even have motivated EA to release two GPs each year instead of only one yearly GP like EA did in the beginning?
Oh right, because earlier Sims trailers (you know, for those games where middle-aged people were said by Will Wright to be the biggest audience) never focused on funny behaviours:

Your unsubstantiated comments about young girls and their short attention spans, inability to appreciate complexity, and preference for shallow experiences need to stop. Have you been a young girl? No? Then I suggest you stop trying to speak for them.- > @Scobre said:

I don't usually make a big deal out of it though. It's just that having 'Kill' and 'Unnatural' on the same sentence tends to get messy. I meant, I have seen people commented on the achievement "Killing sims is very hard, I wish it was easier". I very understand that in some circles, this game is called a game for socio/psychopaths.
> (...) lacking consequences as much as The Sims 4 has been.
This. At least in GTA you'll have the entire city police run after you. In The Sims 4 ? Nope. Even their family is just 'Oh, well, that's unfortunate'. Makes you think.
If you haven't done Speed Dating, Serial Monogamist, WooHoo ! and Vengeful Deity achievement at the same time, you'll never know the full potential of this game. Oh, I'm not giving you ideas, just some consideration for any unsuspecting parents who are very critical about these kind of things. I personally didn't mind myself, but I know certain people who... throw 'plums' at these kind of things. - Sam Player was actually an Executive Producer for EA - in charge under EA Sports who wanted to do a Sims 2 ep and so he did. He did not leave EA until 2013. He was a person I had known at EA through PGA Golf Tour, and Later the Tiger Woods Golf games long before he worked on BV. During Sims 2 production it was not unusual for Producers from other departments to work on EPs when they had a good idea. Back then Maxis was a much smaller studio than it is now - so they need all the best talent EA had to make the by then quite popular Sims game.
Sam was one of my most helpful people at EA when BV's Securom turned my high end pc to an over priced paper weight, and actually spent hours of his own time (after JR reprimanded him for wasting company time on trying to help me and dozens of others with the same issues) personally over the telephone and via email into all hours of the night at his own expense.
But Sam technically did not work for Maxis - he worked for EA and continued to work for EA up until June of 2013. As Cinebar said he also worked on some kind of racing for My Sims for console as well as his expertise was in sports - so it seemed a natural thing for him to do. As an EA Executive Producer he could more or less go anywhere his specialties were needed or when he had a good idea for any of EA's games. He was very talented and a very nice person to boot.
But really - what does any of this have to do with now - and Sims 4? - Erpe you are starting to sound way too creepy and obsessed about young girls. How about you just drop it - as you are creeping a lot of us out - especially moms of young girls. It does not matter who buys what in your country - it is not necessarily like that in the whole wide world and besides it does not matter. I do not care what other people buy - it is none of my business unless they make it my business - I can truly only speak for myself and family that I know first hand for a fact what 30 of us in my family that do buy the Sims games and has since the beginning. Not one of them is young girls.
But please, you are getting really creepy obsessive sounding about this - and truthfully I don't really think any one cares. - > @Scobre said:
No problem. We gotta share the FUN.

Ouch.
> How people are ok having casinos in the Sims which are pretty much machines stealing your money
They added the wishing well from the Romance Stuff right ? To me it's a monetary dumping place. Because in other games my money goes past the maximum limit and then turns to -1. Dunno if that's possible but I'm not willing to try.
> -snip-
I agree, especially the last sentence. Well, in the future it's either that or maybe they just wanted to welcome all said socio/psychopaths together and round 'em up in one go hahahah. Just saying.
Besides, I think EA and Maxis already has a LOT (like, the entire world LOT) of input for future games since day 1. It's just the how (and price) that matters now.
