Have you ever tried to play a “homeless” Sim?

I’m looking for some tips and ideas for story reasons.

I made a small sim family of a YA brother and a teen sister. The brother got bitten and turned into a vampire by Lilith Vatore and after attacking his sister; she has moved out but… now I don’t know what to do with her because she’s a teen and has no other family.

I didn’t want to move her in with a random family so I was thinking she could be homeless for a bit. I’m thinking a tent and… I dunno. What else would you put on a lot for someone who is homeless or squatting?

I did this last year. I created a teenager, can't remember her name or eye colour, but her hair was brown. I gave her a free dress and barefoot, and free outfits for her other wear types. I moved her into an empty lot in Willow Creek. I don't know the no money cheat, so I used the money she originally had. I bought a bed and I just used facilities at peoples houses or nightclubs at stupid o clock at night. (sim time) I waited until everyone in the house was either asleep or somewhere else. Then I went to the toilet, showered, ate quick meals, and slept on the sofa. Then got her to leave. I sent her to school so she could eat there for free. For money I played the piano, sang and wrote books. After a while, I deleted her, because the house owners kept kicking my out for showering or bathing.

Next time you fancy having a go at the sofa surfing lifestyle for a sim. Get the Always Welcome reward trait. It is only about 500 aspiration points I think. Your sim can then use all the facilities when visiting households.

Fantastic idea! I might try this. The idea of sofa surfing sounds oddly fun.

It's a lot of fun! I am a rotational player and I have a small number of sims in my game where I can switch to them and live like this. I also switch to households that are used by these sims and give them a residence key (needs City Living) so they turn up occasionally when playing those households.

I have one sim that has become a global celebrity and I play them like that when visiting his proper friends.

edited: giving keys requires city living, not get together
  • You can have a homeless teen or even a teen who lives alone in a house, as long as they can afford it.
I moved out two teens in two separate saves. One ended up living in a container type of shelter I made for him, the other moved to Strangerville (to the plane crash site, after I evicted the former occupant).

That's a great idea. Another way to have a Sim be homeless is to have generic or other public lots in your world where your homeless Sim can sleep, eat, have showers, use the bathroom.

Showers are available in spas or sports centres, bathrooms are available in all public lots, grills can be found in parks. As for sleeping, an alternative to couch surfing or using a tent is to have public lots in your world that have a bed in them. For example, my inn/pub has a couple of bedrooms on the upper floor (since originally they would provide travellers not just with refreshment but also a place where to spend the night). But since "inn" is not really a recognised type of lot in the game, the result is that any sims can sleep there for free... and for limitless time (unlike a rental lot). I also added two small bed rooms on the upper floor of the Blue Velvet nightclub for, ahem, couples (it's kind of a seedy place in my game :D ) so I guess a homeless Sim could spend the night there. As long as the bed is unoccupied.
  • I did a Rags2Riches Extreme a year or 2 ago, inspired by James Turner. Bought my sim an empty lot and a market table. He could ONLY sell things he found from the table, never from inventory or BB. He spent most of his time in parks (people are always grilling there :p ) and at the gym/pool (for showers etc.) It was a LOT of fun, and it took me quite a long time to finish the challenge part. I had my own flexible rules, but still kept it challenging.
  • How is that possible when a playable sim has to have a lot or suite to live in?

You pretend your lot doesn't exist ??‍♀️ or pretend it's not your sim's property, but a random plot of land.
  • Short answer: A tent and a guitar will do wonders.

I've done multiple variations of the "homeless" sim.

    • I put a sim on an empty lot with a bed (don't have tents) and a guitar, then cheated away his money. He was not allowed a job/profession.
    • I did the same, only he was starting a commune and couldn't take money from anyone who joined. His commune ended up a cult on several lots with various branch leaders. He'd swap out once a week, and that is the entirety of my experience with rotational play.
    • I had a teenager move out of his parents' household with his guitar and toddler sibling. Though he owned an empty lot (I took away his money), he couldn't visit it. He and his sister slept at a park and when other Sims showed up to make tons of hamburgers and tofu dogs, that's what they ate. He managed to earn enough money to get an apartment before his sister aged up!

Technically you can't play a homeless Sim.
Your Sim has to live on a lot somewhere.
I suppose you could put that Sim on an empty lot and add the "off-the-grid" trait to the lot. Then have them mooching everywhere else. ;)

While that's true(Sims must have a 'home lot'), you can just demolish the entire lot and have no house.
