I've been struggling to play any of my games lately, they all seem so monotonous. I'm trying to come up with a good challenge for old fashioned sims with some rules but not using points. Like they can't be in the company of a man unless the older brother is with them and if visitors come they can't be there talking to them alone if a man is present.Those are the only ideas I've come up with, but I want to try to find more ways, it's too easy otherwise, and like should the family start out with alot of money or little and hoping their daughter marries rich? Please list your ideas to help make a really fun, interesting game I can hopefully stick with past the first kids. Thank you so much.

I watch some YouTubers play Sims. Sometimes I get ideas from that, or in one case, it's just amusing. GrayStillPlays does videos where he puts his Sims in bad situations, like 100 Sims in one house, or making them run on treadmills till they die, or making a house with a pool like a hedge maze and they have to swim the entire thing to get to the food/bed/bathroom area. That kind of thing. (And I love how he names his Sims. Like Bab Ross, Florida Man and Beth Amphetamine, and the cats are Spleens and Tonsils. He also plays other games with the same idea of messing things up as much as possible.)I also like James Turner (TheSimSupply in the forums/gallery) and lilsimsie. James did one recently where he only used the base game and Seasons and tried to get in as many of the holidays as possible during the (sponsored) video. (I'm still waiting for that house to be uploaded to the gallery.)I do try some challenges once in awhile, but I don't count the points. It's more to see if I can actually finish. My attention span for continuing my game is pretty weak. I've started two games in the last two months or so, and haven't played either one that long. But this is after months of not playing at all, so still better than nothing.So I recommend watching some let's play videos for inspiration. You might want to emulate what's in the game, or take it off in an entirely different direction.

I would suggest to play a legacy challenge where you will randomise everything about the sims life. From their traits, aspirations, careers, favourite colours(where you need to be creative in CAS or their house interiors), lot traits, lot size, neighbourhood, to name a few. There's no points to be calculated but the thrill that you're going to have while playing with your Sims. For example, I have a Sim with a loner trait but her aspiration is to be Friends of the World, she's also an Oracle, and gave birth to a vampire (she's the spouse of my 3rd generation family). It's pretty intense but, she's surviving. It will let you play with different & unique Sims since you're giving them a character that is out of your comfort zone. I also come to realise that, it is much easier to let the Sims to live in a simple house rather than huge mansion. As of now, for this particular family, they live in a huge estate as the family has been prosperous for the past 3 generations, but now, they are trying to make as much as they can by selling paintings as well as from the salary that they earned, just for to the pay bills & their employees (butlers, maid, gardener). I guess, it's true that old money will never last that long. Try to play with the occults & the lot traits too. For my case for example, my founder house has on a dark lei line (from the randomise result). She gave birth to a twin (1 is a normal Sims while the other is a vampire). I never have any intention to have a vampire to start of a family, but this twist come so well, and I pretty much enjoying it. Just that, I randomly change their lot traits whenever the next heir took over the house & starts their own family. As of now, I'm on my 4th generations with 6 households from the same founder. For the ownership of the houses, I always give it to the male Sims (he can be the eldest or the youngest) because the female Sims are going to get married to the other Sims where they're going to start their own families. I also let my Sims to own businesses such as retails/vets/restaurant if they have spare cash to spend besides going for vacations.I would say that, this is a pretty easy & fun way to play with your Sims, given what the games have at the moment. There's no set of rules except that you just need to randomise everything and let the system work it out for you & having fun playing along with them. If you're getting bored playing with the Sims, try to renovate the community lots so that your Sims could have a fun time the next time you're going to play them.

Those are great ideas, there are lots of traits I haven't played and could be interesting, maybe I'll use story mode in CAS so it randomizes everything for me, thank you!I also found a runaway teen challenge, I'd already made a runaway princess, she's a vampire that was bitten at a ball when she'd stepped outside for some air. She ran away from her family unsure of what was happening to her, she started on the empty lot and has just finally completed her home.It's really hard keeping her from talking to adults, as the rules say but it's been hard and fun, thank you for the other ideas to add some fun back!

I had an idea I'm going to try out, but it is not old fashioned and it is a lot of work!I am going to delete all the homes and just keep my existing community lots. Then I am going to make a heap of single or couple sims, some with pets but no kids. Give them different traits and design each sim for a different career or self employment so I can experience all the different jobs.Then build a small starter home for each and move them into the worlds. Some of the homes will be pack specific so that i can try and use items i don't normally use.Some sims will go to uni to get certain jobs, others will have jobs I feel don't require uni.I will rotate around them all as and when i feel like it and they can have kids as and when i feel like it.Hopefully it will provide a huge amount of variety create an expanding and thriving set of worlds.

Ive noticed a few simmers on yt using "wheels" that they made on a website and using it to spin for random things to happen in their game or to their sims. Could be something that may put some spark back in your game.

I've been where you are before @smurfy77! Some of the things I like to do include:

-limiting money/income. You could start with your money at 0, you could build a house but then only give them $1000 to start living life and pay bills, etc. This can be super interesting if you play rotationally like I do and sometimes come back to $4,000 bills and a $1,000 bank account (happened to me last week when I played haha. The family didn't starve but they did have to live in the dark for a bit?)

-creating niche clubs and groups. For example, I have a club for children who are outdoorsy, one for moms, one for rich people that I call the country club, etc.

-give teens jobs! I've found balancing homework, needs, social life and work make things prettyyy interesting for my teens

-create time themes. Some use cc/mods for this but I don't really use them, I just work with the packs I have. Create families set in a particular decade and have that influence their behavior, parenting, clothing, jobs etc.

-create your own jobs! This is something I just started doing but it's super fun. You would need to use money cheats depending on how you do it. Just make your sim self-employed and give yourself goals based on that. For example, choose any job you'd like to see in the game and name that as your sim's career. Decide on 2-3 skills they need to max for the top of the career, plus a few areas they should brush up on and just need a couple points for. Decide on days/hours to work, a pay amount, and tasks your sim will need to complete daily. Once you finish your "daily tasks" you can cheat in money for your pay if it's something that's not directly marketable, like painting would be. Get creative! Essentially your goal is to mimic the get to work live careers, but it's 100% up to you what happens.

-don't be afraid of drama! Is everything smooth sailing, too easy, everyone's friends? Do something about it! Have an affair, a mysterious pool ladder accident, introduce occults, etc. Try to consider how you want a sim to react--maybe some don't mind aliens, but maybe some don't like them and won't befriend them; Maybe the entire neighborhood ostracizes a sim for cheating on a well-known and loved sim around town. Etc.

Not all of them work for old fashioned play but I hope this helps and spurs your imagination :)
