How can I marry my sims if the wedding arches are not working? Any mods?

I discovered that when I wanted to marry two sims and I planned a Wedding Event that the arches do not work.  No matter what I did they remained grayed out.  I even tried buying an arch and putting it on a residential lot where my active sim lived and having her invite her betrothed over but still the part where you have the ceremony remained grayed out.  It said your partner isn't around, inite them over but he was standing right next to her.  So it is clearly broken.  Are there mods which can circumvent this foolishness?  I do not believe EA will ever fix this themselves.   Oh,  on a funny note though I did have a funny situation where there were 12 guests and nobody could leave.  They were stuck on the lot for two days.  It was the wedding from Hell.  Luckily the hosts were excellent cooks and prepared food for everyone and there were many beds, couches and places where the guests could sleep when they got tired.  And three bathrooms and a swimming pool so everyone kept their bladders and enjoyment in check.  Nobody went insane.  I didn't want to end it and then I found I couldn't end it.  The button to cancel the event did not work either.  But after two days the weekend was over and people needed to get back to their regular lives so I had to just end the game and reboot.

  • Incidentally,  why isn't there a simple option on the phone where you can call and arrange to have a civil union "wedding" and then your sim goes off to a rabbit hole and gets married and then returns.  I think doing it via the phone is best because not every neighborhood has a "city hall:" or government building to use as a rabbit hole like in Sims 3.

  • I'm glad you mentioned this because my Sim couldn't get married in my church lot. I was baffled when the arch didn't work. Had to take them in CAS and marry them. I did get a picture in the church, but no ceremony.

I like your idea of making a phone call and going off to get married. Kind of like when you go off to have a science baby.

That is a great idea.  I forgot all about going straight to CAS and just manually making them married.  Thanks

The thing is, they'll be referred to as newlyweds in a popup, too. I found it odd, too, because they had three teens and two children by then. I created the family in CAS and D'oh, forgot to create the relationship of the parents. Whoopsie!

I recall being able to send my couple down to City Hall in Sims3.  Check out Tartosa, just in case.

  • I had that happen once and I think I was able to have them elope/exchange vows still standing under the arch. So it looked normal.
