How do you keep your town from turning into a jumbled mess?

Periodically I will check out the rest of the town that I'm not playing just to see who is where. But one thing I'm noticed it's a jumble mess. What I mean is whole families will end up becoming homeless or moving into a one-bedroom house. And then you end up having all these Sims that were created after the game was started living in these big old mansions by themselves. I don't mind Sims moving around but some of the stuff just does not make sense.

What are some things that you do to try to keep some sense of organization to your game saves?

  • Is this with the story progression turned on? (I think that's what it's called.) I know my SP is turned on and I haven't noticed this.

I have story progression turned off in my games, I play rotationally.
  • As others have said, I turn off story progression. I play the neighborhoods in rotation. Usually I just focus on one or two families, but visit any others that need an update.
  • I periodically go through manage households and clean out sims I don't want, like every other week. I'll do that more often if I've done a big cleanup and followed it with a couple of long gameplay sessions. I look for households that don't fit, like huge families in San Myshuno, or CAS tragedies. If I do come across a sim that looks promising I will pull them into CAS and polish up their look and leave them be or move them to a lot I feel fits them.

I don't have story progression at all. I think that was in MCCC, right? I had to remove it a while back because every version of MCCC has started killing my load times. With any version my load times are north of 10 minutes and without it less than a minute. That's after reaching the main menu. I get from desktop to main menu quickly even with MCCC in. Discord has been a hot mess to get an account set up and logged into, so I haven't gone to Deaderpool for help. I just haven't missed that mod enough lately to wade in and try to sort that out.?
  • Hi @LaBlue0314 , you might try tweaking your Neighborhood Stories settings so that they are more to your liking.

For me, it really doesn't matter what size family lives in what size house, unless it is a family that my played sims will be visiting for long or overnight visits. But it does matter to me that the Goths stay in the Goth house, etc, so I turn off Move Out for those families.
  • @LaBlue0314 I just finished making a master save that I'll use whenever I want to start fresh, and I made sure that most of my houses are filled, and that the families don't have the option to move out. The SP in game is very heavy handed and has no rhyme or reason, but I do like the idea that things are going on outside of my Sims, so I keep it on for game-generated Sims and some townies.

Collect a few households that you'd like to keep around and move them into the houses, then make sure they can't move out again.
  • neighborhood stories off, no filling empty houses, delete all randomized sim that spawns everytime before i play household
  • NS as in Neighborhood Stories. I would turn it off. I do notice that the NPCs move in and out, but I don't check on them. I play my own created Sims and hope for the best.
