During the livestream questions were asked regarding how exactly does the active acting career lot work in regards to building your own. IE does it work like hospitals, police stations, and laboratories in GTW. They kept saying they would touch on it later but I don't feel like they ever really showed it off or even fully explained the answer. The most that was said is something along the lines of "you can edit the set but the changes won't save after you leave the lot". Which makes sense obviously you don't want a pirate ship set to still be there if you are working on a sci-fi film, but how does this work in relation the entire lot? The guru's have stated that different things change on the lot depending on your gig and career level. Better eating areas, rugs, etc. Does this mean if we build the whole lot from the ground up it resets to a different lot when we come back? Does it mean that only the sets themselves are the only thing that changes? Do I have to go into my library and replace the lot every time I go to work? I'd just like some clarification on how this system works.

Is anyone actually questioning why people would change or customize things in The Sims of all games? I can think of a million things someone might want to do to alter the film studio to match their story, the way people build or alter any other venue in the game...Anyway, @phantom121294, we're all guessing at answers. I assume that the entire lot will reset when you leave, so although you could probably build an entire studio lot from scratch you would likely have to bulldoze and re-place it each time you visit and risk not laying down the appropriate marks for your day. I can't think of a reason why you couldn't change the scenery on the 'stage' before you perform the acting job, but that's probably it. Of course, it may be that you can't even change the background props, but I can't think of a good reason why not.

I don’t think this has been mentioned yet, but you can place the set pieces and the indicator x’s on residential lots and the x’s will have all the acting options on them instead of one like in the acting career. It looked like all the set peices, greenscreens, special effects and x marks are fully functional off the studio lot. This is great for creating machinimas on your own outside of the acting/studio lot. Not sure if this works on other lots other than residential lots as that is were they showed these options off in the live stream. From what I understand you can set up the set and effects however you like (not sure about rest of studio) as long as you keep the active (highlighted) marks and props - these are needed to do all the acting actions and get maximum points and likely reset if you delete or replace them.ETA: They are likely going to cover this more in the final stream (World & Build Assets)

I also noticed they didn't address that question. All they said is what you said. The lot changes based on the gig your sim is called to do. You can change the studio with bb.enablefreebuild, but it won't matter because the gig is what dictates what is on the lot when you go.

They said you could stay on the lot and alter the sets by using the cheat to enable build mode.

I would assume you could enable this cheat when you first arrive too. Then you could build a new set, place some markers, and let your sim actually "act" out their job for the day in the setting you created.

I haven't watched the livestream yet but I believe they are also doing a bunch of other livestreams in the coming weeks and will talk about those more in depth.

The "stage" resetting isn't really a big deal. At least to me. The issue is does this affect the entire lot? Does the everything get changed back to vanilla lots?

Ideally I'd hope not because I'd like to design my own studio. I'm hoping they just added a "special" career specific item that is like a flat 15x10 grid that automatically places one of the prebuilt stages when you get to the lot. I'm hoping they just give you a bunch of special career specific items (like the operating table, or the fingerprinting station in GTW), and let you go crazy with everything else. But I starting to wonder if this is something different.
