How to fill proper laundry in the Sims 4!

The Laundry Day Stuff pack was released in 2017. New laundry machines and clotheshangers were added. But in this thread I'll be showing you all about laundry!

So to get a pile of laundry, when a Sim changes their clothes, and a hamper is on the lot, a pile of "mess looking" clothers in inside a hamper, like trash in a trash can.

After clothes are in the hamper, just direct the Sim to add them to the washer, then turn the washer on. Clothes spinning in the washer is good news.
Sims who change clothes in a full hamper will leave clothe piles on the ground.

When the clothes stop spinning, guide the Sim to the dryer, then turn it on as well when it is full. Then wait for drying to finished, and unload it, and the Sim will throw the clothes up, vanishing it. Now be very careful of not unloading clothes quickly. If your Sim leaves the clothes unattended for too long then quality gradually goes down and can make your Sim in a moody situation.

The quality of fresh dried clothes go as here in decending order being the most dirty: Pristine - Clean - Used - Dirty - Filthy
Dirty or Filthy clothes will be more common if the Sim changes clothes in a low Hygiene mood.

Dryness is the second factor in used clothes and goes in this decending order from dry to soaked - Dry and Warm - Dry - Damp - Soaked
The Dryness quality will be lower if a Sim changes outfits, just after getting in a pool.

Fragrance is the smell of clothing - flies signal a smell. Fragrant - No Fragrance - Foul. Butterflies are signaled by fragrance.

There are a few upgrades to the washer and dryer that will help with doing laundry:

Presoak for the washers: The washer will have higher chances of "Pristine" quality with the minor expense of slower washing.

Whisper Silent: Just makes dtyers run more silently
Same for Whisper Quiet for washers.

Lint-Less: Lint will no longer be a factor for dryers, which makes laundry run faster. This also makes the dryer immune to fire, due to high lint.

Laundry addictive tray - Now Sim can add Flowers or Food to make the scent of washed laundry. If food is added, will make a foul scent and flowers a good scent. Also Sim with 4 Mischief skill can add extra soap, breaking the washer. The Sim can also use a wash tub to scent the laundry free of upgrades.

Speed Cycle - Makes washers and dryers wash more quick.

Tungsten Drum: Just reduces how often they break for wash and dry.

Lastly, Sims can watch the laundry which can make them dizzy. A chime plays after completion. High chimes mean good outcomes. and low is bad.

Sims can also use a wash tub to dry laundry the old, original ways.

Hope this helps!

  • I do like doing laundry in the game and little over half of my households do laundry. I also have 2 laundromats on community lots. But I do find it best to keep the laundry baskets in the same room as the machines. It doesn't prevent the clothes to go into them at all when my Sims change and it actually saves time especially when the buildings are on the bigger size or multi levels. Especially if the household employ maids or butlers who tend to take FOREVER to gather up the laundry. They go from one basket to the machine. Then up again to the next one and take that load to the machine and repeat same action again! Another I find useful is that even though you put clothes into the washer, you don't have to start the machine straight away. You can load it a few times before starting it if you want. I find that last thing especially useful when playing my off the grid lot where water and electricity has to be used sparingly.

I'd love to have an indoor drying rack, too.

ATS has some CC ones that work like the clothes line.

    @Felicia_Queens
You'd think so, but throw up any bit of information about the game, and you'll likely find 300 simmers who've never heard of it.
  • I'm finding that a lot of the new builds I do have a dedicated laundry room. Seeing this topic come up the other day, and messing around in BB this morning it struck me that I have been doing this on almost every one of my last 10 or so builds. I just sort of moved from a laundry nook to a small room without even realizing how often I was doing it. The first two rooms I did intentionally and it just took off from there.

Funny how such small detail can become a habit without even realizing it.
  • Thank you for the nice guide. I love having my sims do laundry which is weird because I don't like doing it myself in real life. :D

Wonderful, thank you @EmmaVane  exactly the thing I was looking for. The outside one works great in Oasis and other not so wet neighborhoods but need something indoors for raining seasons and winter

Well I never knew a lot about the washer and dryer because for years I only made my sims suffer through hand washing. Muscles don't grow on trees,
(or in CAS?)I need them to work for it and work off all of that food they ate??
