How would a coward trait work?

There are rumors that there is possibly a coward trait coming in the new game pack, but this isn't about speculating whether or not we'll get the trait, just what we'd like to see with it.

So what makes a coward? Cowards are terrified of almost everything, and their fear is intense. What are some things that cowards should be afraid of?

There are certain things that all sims should be afraid of like Ghosts and Vampires. But the fear of ghosts/mummies/simbots in sims 3 was incredibly annoying, I've never met a single person that liked their ques being interrupted when seeing one, or having the whole town distraught while playing one. There should be some adjustments though, maybe a very strong reaction to haunting, but not so much the ghost itself, since I usually pretend the ghost is invisible anyway. Likewise, vampires with the decay weakness make everyone around them slightly tense or fearful, but if a vampire drinks from a prey in front of crowd, everyone gets an afraid buff. This is assuming we get fear anyway)

-Vampires
-Ghosts
-Aliens
-Skeletons?
-Repairing electronics
-fires
-adventuring
-camping
-getting into a fight
-bear/raccoon suits/clowns

What else should cowards be afraid of?

And what makes someone Brave? Honestly, brave sims should jump head first into fires to put them out, pick fights with Vampires etc.

I know there's at least one thread discussing the possibility of these traits, but this thread is more about going in depth and what we'd like to see :)
  • I feel like there has to be fear emotion and animations associated or a coward trait wouldn't work ... the sims would just look tense all the time and that looks ticked off or frustrated to me ... not scared. If they don't plan on adding fear they might as well put their energies elsewhere.

I did think after I posted they could use some of the humiliated animations .. but even then, there would need to be more.

They'd probably be afraid of the dark and other innocuous things that wouldn't faze regular sims. It could get annoying if they're afraid of too many things, though.

It would be neat if coward sims had exclusive work pop ups like the sims with the irresponsible trait have from parenthood, coward sims are less likely to become angry, more likely to become tense or sad if confronted by an uncomfortable situation, an example would be a sim insults the coward sim, and then the coward becomes sad because they don’t have the will to fight back, which would make mean socials harder to perform. I feel like romantic relationships would be harder to develop as well, not like the unflirty trait, but emotions like flirty and confident are less intense making romantic interactions harder to perform. These are a few of my ideas.

Maybe increased chance of bladder failure/embarrassment if in a scary situation.

If we do get the coward trait, I'd like the brave trait back as well -- they'd laugh at the idea of danger, no bladder failure in scary situation, etc. Moodlet that would keep motives from decaying when on an adventure -- maybe something like Adrenaline Rush moodlet.

It's in the Sims 3 - one of the Maxis Characters Liam O'Dourke I think is his name has it in one of the store worlds - and is scared of ghosts and a number of other things. His knees knock, he trembles, appears scared and when the fear overcomes him, he faints. Often (I know it is horrible to say this) I totally crack up watching him trying to be brave.

And when there has been too much stress (in a tomb for example) they get too stressed-out and can't do anything aggravating for a while (the options are greyed out).

Oh I never took a Coward sim exploring - so I have no idea. Most of my explorers have the Brave trait.

I do find it odd that Liam is scared to death of ghosts, mummies, and full aliens but was not the least big frightened of any of the supernaturals. He also was frightened by wild animals especially at night and did not want to live on a houseboat - so I do think he had a fear of the Kraken perhaps - but he was so miserable on a houseboat and did not seem to like any of the ocean water craft in IP - so I moved him back to his house in Hidden Springs.

Poor Liam I used to always use him for testing out the cowardly fears - but really knew better than take him actually exploring. Time is of the essence in tombs and vacations early on in the game, and very expensive (I don't like using cheats) so I did not experiment with Liam exploring. I learned his fear of mummies in a populated user made world that had a mummy character in it that I was testing for the creator. Liam was always one of my tester sims because of his traits. But Liam was absolutely terrified of the mummy and instantly passed out.

(That testing was also how I learned trying to play the mummy as a Sim breaks your game - as it is not a Sim in Sims 3. LOL. )
  • I had fun scaring the crap out of them. The number one thing that was removed from sims was fear of the dark. I used to love scaring them with karmic actions and this one guy I had would cry and wet his pants and faint. OMG I bathed in those tears of fear it was so fun and now that trait is gone :(

We really do need a 'scared' emotion - that would be more realistic for kids with nightmares. I love the idea of the 'coward' trait, and I hope this rumour is true, but it would be even better with a new emotion. We already have the virtual opposite - confident.

This sounds amazing. If we end up getting a coward trait its time they finally give us a fear emotion because without it they will just go into tense which does work with it.

Also where did this rumor come from did someone find something in the code?
  • Just thinking out of the box:

Cowards could simply be afraid to assert themselves as well. They could progress more slowly in their careers, have a harder time making decisions, or difficulty establishing mutually beneficial relationships. Cowards might attract Mean or Evil Sims who want to take advantage of their timidity. They may also be afraid to try anything new. No daredevil type activities for them.

Though, now that I think of it, EA may not want to touch on that aspect of human interactions. :/
