I am running out of ideas for households

A lot of times I start with a household that has a backstory that inspires me. I created a challenge that focused on creating sims inspired by a backstory to use for the household. Here is the link, perhaps one of the households will give you an idea for a new game save.

I add relatives to the maxis premades, usually... I'm too lazy to fill my world, plus I like them.

Started adding families from ts2/1/3 in.

I actually just filled a spreadsheet with sims I want to add to my base save. I've used characters from three different story lines I want to play out (and Sims from several stories I already played out) and a handful of interesting Sims I made before but never used. They're all connected in some way. But the majority of these Sims already existed, either in game, from cas, or in my mind.
But backstories are essential to set up an interesting save. And connecting those stories makes it even more interesting. You could for example have a feud between aliens and vampires, or, if you don't like supernaturals, Montys and Capps so to speak and integrate side characters into different stories.

I sometimes add sims I have played previously from other saves. Or I will just pick some random ones off the gallery that I like the look of.

haha, I did that too once!! I put all the Disney Princesses in one house just to see how MCCC would marry them off. I seriously feel like I've done it all.

A good way of creating households is to base them on a trait or aspiration. Also, if you do several of them with different aspirations and traits, you get a very diverse world with many different characters that really feel and look unique.
When in CAS pick one aspiration and create a sim perfect for it, or pick a trait at random and base your sim's personality and style around it.
I find this helps when I feel I'm a bit stucked.

I like to span families across the town if that makes sense. Have one family that you create in cas (maybe with a recognizable trait or personality, so it adds to the family thing) and then create aunts, uncles, cousins, exes that share children, etc. It makes it cool to see them around town- and more realistic, imo.

Also, you've probably done this already, but have you searched the townies hashtag? There are some themed households of 8 that have pretty unique and good-looking sims. I usually go in and separate the household then build the individuals' families so it isn't just a household of 8 single, unrelated sims.
