I think they should’ve just made them overrides. Otherwise, it’s a bit confusing.
I'm really glad they didn't make them overrides. I want some of my sims to freelance and work from home, other times, I want my sim to have rabbit hold careers to go to.
I like more options, not overrides.
Yes, leaving it like this gives us more ways to play. For example, I don't usually control everyone in the household. Maybe I want to focus on playing the wife and give the husband a rabbithole career so I don't have to bother with him. And vice versa. - paradiseplanet277 years agoSeasoned Ace

these freelance options are very different from the rabbithole versions of the same job. they add a lot of variety, as others have pointed out, and replacing the rabbithole versions would remove some of that variety and even limit options for specific types of sims or concepts
for example, i don't believe the freelance stuff is actually a good thing for ambitious sims, since the freelance career paths only have one career level instead of multiple promotions. and, by me, that's absolutely fine. ambitious types wouldn't want the freelance type of work, anyway, as they like to have set milestones to mark their progress. the rabbithole careers are perfect for that
another thing that i like with the freelance options is that one individual sim can swap between the three roles/agencies at will without having to totally change careers. this, to me, makes them even more perfect for noncommittal sims than i originally expected. they can be a painter one day, then spend the next chasing programming gigs
You just gave me another great gameplay idea @kalaksed ! - I haven't tried the new freelancer career yet (still waiting for my mods to get greenlighted as working), but from what I understand it adds a level of uncertainity to the game?
For example if my sims register with the ministry of labor as painters, they will paint when and what they want and then sell the result from the easel for an assured payment in money in fame. But if the same sim applys for gigs, they carry the risk of getting refused and having to start anew. Since we/some of us asked for more consequences and realism, we got that. - I think the chance of failing at certain task is too high in a freelancing programmer, Mine got a task to encrypt 5 files I think I tried like 12 times to finally finished the task because my sims keep failing on it, he was just starting the programming skill dont know whether that was one of the reason.
- Beardedgeek727 years agoSeasoned AceI'll let you know what I think in a few months.
I haven't even tried the Actor's career yet so when the twins grow up one will be an actor and the other a professional gamer I think. Nobody doing any official freelance work until NEXT generation at the earliest. "kalaksed;c-17036363" wrote:

I was more vocal than I have been in the past because of this particular career addition.
I created a sim this morning who wants to be a romance writer which suits her Soulmate aspiration. She is all about the romance - watching romantic TV, dressing in hearts and flowers - whatever I can do to make her as romantic as possible. I created her especially to be in the Freelancer writer branch. So far none of my gig options (even those that are above my present level) are romantic themed ones. If one does come up it is possible that I will be doing the same one over and over again. This is not stimulating gameplay to me.
The profession she could join is the Writer career and choose the Author branch when the time comes. But as I already have a sim in that branch there really isn't any need for two sims doing the same job. (And as I said, she was created specifically for the Freelancer career.)
The best solution for me is to just register with the Ministry of Labour as a romance novelist - the Danielle Steele of the Sims set. Then sit her down at a computer, practice writing and when the time comes just write romance novels and collect the royalties. Won't take long as I only have to get her to level 4.
Freelancer is doing nothing for this Sim as I knew it wouldn't pre-release. So no, I didn't change my mind. It doesn't interest me. Not for this sim and really not for the other sims I have that are writers."izecson;c-17039441" wrote:

I had the same problem - every time my Sim tried to encrypt the file, it got corrupted. She wasn't able to complete the task. She had maxed out the programming skill, and this was a level 1 task, so skill wasn't an issue. Her first gig went just fine.
