I Quit: How do I get Herbs the easy way?

I'm a late bloomer to the Sims 4 and I only recently got Outdoor Adventure. Is there anyway to spawn or debug or buy the herbs from somewhere? I can hardly find any herbs and it takes so many darn visits to spawn the chamomile that I *have* been able to find.

Is there any easier way to get herbs?

  • Do you have City Living? The spice festival has a lot of harvestable fruit/veg/herbs.
  • @CaptainElsa Here is a chart taken from Carl's Sims 4 Plant Guide for all the Herbs available for harvest showing their rarity, in what season they grow, base value, how many hours it takes the plant to mature to first bloom, and their location in Granite Falls. Hope it helps!

    EDIT:

The longest it takes for an herb to mature is 24 hrs. All mature plants bloom for harvest at 5 a.m. every day after the initial hours to grow has passed. That is, provided your Sim is in the area. They have to BE there at 5 a.m. For example, if your Sim arrived in Granite Falls at 10 a.m., it wouldn't mature until 10 a.m. the next day which would be too late to harvest that day, you'd need to wait until the next day at 5 a.m. before it would produce anything. The least amount of time I would spend in Granite Falls when harvesting for just the plants is 3 days.

Now, for the herbalism skill, you'll also need the insects for most of the recipes as well and those could take even longer to find. I would spend at least a week in Granite Falls in order to find all the ingredients needed. This all pertains to new gardeners. If your gardener Sim is at Level 5, they will have the option to take a cutting to graft on to other plants at home instead of waiting for plants to fully mature and produce.

I hope all this makes sense and helps. You should check out Carl's entire gardening guides and videos for more information. It's an invaluable resource for Sims 4 gardeners.

But, if you don't want to bother doing all that, you could also use the debug cheat and get the plants/insects that way. It's been my experience though that getting them that way doesn't always work. Sometimes the plants won't grow or won't evolve. *shrugs*

Happy Simming anyway and Good Luck! <3
  • Sorry for the double post but I just thought of something else. There is a way to spawn plants to your Sim's lot with individual cheat codes. I have a list for the base game plants, but not the OR herbs. Perhaps someone else could help out with that? Or you could do a Google search and perhaps find it that way. :)
  • In addition to what @Karababy52 said, to get the 10 herbs and flowers you need for herbalism, you might want to plan a 7 day vacation and arrive before 5 AM during the summer if you have Seasons since that's the only time of year when all 10 are available at the same time. If you don't have Seasons, then you can go anytime you want because the climate is always the same and all the plants will bloom after the 1st day. Since all of the plants and insects are not all in the same area and some of them can only be found in one of the 3 areas (Rental home area, the state park and the deep woods/hermit house hidden area) only, you'll have to go to each area before you'll be able to collect all 10 of the havestables and all 20 of the insects. Basically, it can take you 2 days in each area to collect everything assuming you time it right if you have to wait on the plants to grow. On the insects, some of those only show at certain times of the day, usually dawn and dusk but it does vary by insect. The big dragonfly is probably the hardest one to catch because it only shows once a day and it doesn't show at the same time every time. Some days, that one doesn't seem to show at all. The fire ants and bees can be a pain to catch too since they bite a lot of the time and if they do, they don't get collected and you have to try again later.

Now if you're talking about all the other plants, you can order seeds from the computer or by clicking on the 2x2 planter bed. The only plants you can't buy via the seed packs are the 10 OR herbalism plants and the 3 GTW alien plants and the UFO fruit. Even the magical plants from ROM and the plants added by JA and Vampires can be bought. I'm not sure if those can be bought if you don't have those game packs though and you might have to have Seasons too. The seed packs were added by Seasons if I remember correctly. But if you do, you can buy them as seed packs. BTW, for some of the seed packs (uncommon and rare), you have to have a certain Gardening skill level before they will show up in the order menu dropdown.

Another way to get herbs, fruits and veggies is buy them at the produce vender stalls that show up in the CL spice district and arts district from time to time but you can't buy all of them there. The only way to get them all is by buying the seed packs. But you have to have City Living for that.

    Hope this helps you.
  • There is a mod that I use that really helps when it comes to all harvest plants. What the mod does it allows the plant to grow and be harvestable during Spring, Summer, and Fall, but be dormant during Winter.

Look for the one called plants go dormant in winter only
  • Finding all those herbs can be a real pain that is made even worse by Seasons. I will never understand why the plants from the Vampires GP are in season all year, but the ones you have to pay money to collect because they're in a vacation world, are only available in one or two seasons.

That's why I only make my herbalists collect everything once and then plant it in their own garden. It's the insects that require several visits to Granite Falls, but there are downloadable insect spawner objects for those who aren't opposed to mods.

If you have Get To Work installed, you could also search the gallery for a shop that sells herbs specifically.
  • Oh awesome! Thanks, ya'll! I didn't know there were mods for this and at this point I am not against using a mod AT ALL. I'm on my 8th generation in this legacy family and I still only have chamomile!

This has been the best thread to explain how to get the herbs. I'm off to mod, cheat code, and plan a loooong vacation to Granite Falls!
  • Go on the gallery and find a room with all the herbs. Just search herbs and filter out rooms.

You beat me to it, do exactly this.
