Is there a sure fire way to write a best seller? My sims keeps writing and publishing books and bringing in too much money without a best seller. I need three for the aspiration. Is there a special genre? Do I only have to sell to publisher or have to self publish? When will the book go best seller, right when I publish or...?

I haven't found any sure way to get a bestseller and it seems I can write dozens of them until I get that need in the aspiration, then I get none. When you have written a book you can mouse over it in your inventory and it will tell you if it's a bestseller or not.

Try getting them Very Inspired or I've had better luck when they're listening to music but it's pretty random which I like since it makes the aspiration harder to complete.

HelloThere is the " Creative Visionary " reward that you can buy that will help to increase the chance you will write best sellers.Try to also make sure that your sim is in an inspired state when writing the books.

If you hover over the book while it's in your sims inventory, it'll tell you what it is. "Best Seller" "Excellent", etc. It's best, when the option is giving to you, to submit Best Sellers to literary something or other. But, the quality of the book is determined when it's done being created, not on how it's published. You can also hover over the title when publishing and it'll tell you all the info on the book, including the quality. I've had the best luck writing screenplays, but I have noticed it's whatever you have wrote the most of. So if your sim has wrote more Fiction, just have her keep writing fiction. Take a thoughtful shower then cloudgaze until the inspired moodlet pops and if you have those Sims 3 bonus lamps, put out two to three of those inspired ones and turn on the aura to get your sim as inspired as you can.

you don't have to publish them at all if you'd rather stay broke. the quality is determined right after you write them.

yeah royalties for published books disappear I think around 2 sim weeks after publishing them. (someone correct me if This is wrong! )

You could always just money cheat away the added income if you don't want it and pretend they're making a higher donation somewhere. Or buy a few of the super expensive violins and keep them in your inventory which will make your bills higher taking away some of the future royalty income coming in. Once you no longer need them just resell them for less money or leave them lying around on a public lot somewhere.

The royalties last for about 20 days then there won't be anymore income for that book.

I find writing emotional books whilst the sim is in that emotion helps. Sad books work really good.

Okay, I got my club gathering going with the maximum inspired vibe and had that inspiring lamp on the desk on, got three bestsellers in a row. :D Thanks, guys!

It is great that your sim now has written the best sellers! :) It was great that he wrote three in a row!

I think the royalties stop when the author dies. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Um, I think I'm with the others cause the royalties keep getting smaller. But not sure entirely when they stop. It used to be 10 grand and now it's down to 4K

Yeah, my Sim wrote a ton of books for her bestselling author aspiration. Once she got the reward trait, I stopped cold turkey. She is now getting ~400 simoleans from exactly 1 book at this point.
