I have seen many content creators create content (and profit for it of course) about how the new "trailers" are misleading and how EA should be sued because the way it looks is not the way The Sims look inside the game itself. However It really irks my mind when they see it as "false advertising" were other games even do it to the point that they look nothing to the game itself.
The Biggest example is Civilization Trailers.

However this is the reality of the game. A Digital Board game

None of those Actions where you see huge number of people battling with the empire destroying walls or even fireworks that are happening. There are no people that lives in the city or swim in what you build on those cities compared on the trailer. And surely there are no buildings with interior ever in that game. Just like The Sims Life advertising, if you want those to happen you have to use your imagination. If there is a volcanic eruption near the city you built then you imagine that people are suffering and dying on that city because while you can lost population, you will not see it like in the trailers shown.
This is how marketing works in the industry. The first three videos in my post shows the players the idea of the game is all about. In the case of The Sims Life, What The Sims is all about. Not to showcase the game itself but the idea of what it is all about.
The last trailer in my post show the actual gameplay. There are lots of gameplay videos in The Sims youtube channel to. Now Those are meant to show gameplay footage.
That is why I find it bizzare that people are angry and bashing at this. The marketing aims to show the idea of what the game is all about, not showcase the gameplay of the game. Gameplay trailers, and "Idea" trailers like these are different.
Just compare how Get Famous Launch trailer is different from the actual gameplay trailer. The gameplay trailer shows you how your sim can be famous and how mechanics works, but the launch trailers shows you the idea of becoming famous by becoming an actor/actress, which is what the expansion pack is all about.
