I'm so glad they didn't wait 20 whole days before giving a definite answer.
This is still extremely disappointing though.
I am excited for this pack but I have to say, if their goal is for the game to be perceived as a very casual and simplistic game, they are heading in the right direction.
As others have said, they kept saying that "cats and dogs" was the best version of pets so far, yet they took away so many options for them. I am not even talking about the fact that there are two new types of pets only. But about the fact that they decided pets would never be controllable, would not have any info pannel... etc. Personnaly I never controlled my pets in TS2 and TS3, and it worked perfectly. It also worked perfectly for those who did control them. So I fail to see how keeping only one option out of those two was the best decision ever.
Maybe this iteration of Seasons will indeed be impressive on other aspects. But in my opinion that doesn't make up for the fact that there is no visually believable snow in the game.
As the fourth iteration, any improvement (foliage maybe changing more gradually, new gameplay brought by the thermostat system...) should have been ADDED to the important features that were there in the older games. Not replaced them.
I will buy the EP because it does seem interesting but I think my perception of the game and the esteem I had for it will never be the same after this iteration.
For many others it this expansion pack provides the best iteration of pets so far in the main sims game. I go with different social media like reddit and many people are saying that this was the best pets in the series. Yes there are two types of pets only, but there are a big new feature for the sims that expanded their option for the sims for their pets, and that is the vet career and the number of things you can discover with it.
Development wise it the making of them as uncontrollable pets was probably the best decision ever development wise. Supporting controllable and uncontrollable pets will take their resources. For example their behaviors. The behaviors of Cats and Dogs are the most realistic in the series imo. Because in three years(let's assume it was worked for three years) they focused on their behaviors. If they added controllable pets, that wouldn't be the same. In three years they will have to create behaviors, a slew of moodlets like sims 3, and behavior of cats and dogs while controlling them, The Sims 3 Pets did both and they was all shallow. They didn't focus on the pets behaviors but rather on making them controllable, and researching on how the controllable pets feature will be fun for its players. If they did it in Sims 4, a lot of tiny details with pets won't exist and I doubt cats will be able to jump on many surfaces. of course if you use a mod of controllable the pets are amazing and their behaviors won't change, that is because the devs spent their whole dev time in developing it and I doubt it will be that great if they added controllable pets.
About the info pannel that is my only gripe about the pack but I can live with it. This is the only feature that I don't think will take a way a huge number of resources for them.
