Kids and Teens should get something out of caring for their younger sibs

Personally, I think teens should be able to gain the parenting skill--they get asked advice, but can't ever progress to higher options, which is frustrating. But it also just doesn't make sense that a sim that spent so much time giving their younger sibs baths or reading to them or putting them to bed should then only "gain" the parenting skill later and start from scratch. Obviously, they'd only gain it if they actually do things, so you still have teens that just ignore their younger siblings and never get it. I'd be fine with them gaining it slower, I just think they should have it if they're actively babysitting (and then maybe parenting skill could be a requirement for advancement in the babysitting career? Like, that'd make sense, right?)

But anyway, actually what this post is about is, if we can't have the parenting skill, can we at least gain some values from it? Responsibility maybe? It's already easy to get responsibility through school, but maybe the sim I'm playing isn't that studious, and instead focuses on taking care of a younger sibling and gets to learn responsibility through that. I mean, you get responsibility from feeding a pet, but not a baby? Come on!

I dunno, maybe they're some other ideas. I just wish there was something, y'know?

  • I also agree teens should be able to learn the Parenting skill -- I've had teens that have done a better job caring for their younger siblings than the actual parents have. I think that teens (and even children) do get some responsibility from doing things for their siblings (if you have Seasons and put them in the Scouting activity they can earn badges for things like cleaning up at home or entertaining toddlers). I'd like to do a family where the teen takes care of the rest of the family because the parents are too involved with their careers or going out to party so the younger children gain a closer relationship to their sibling than to their parents.
  • I completely agree, which is why I have LittleMsSam's mod that allows teens to do just that.
  • Yeah, I'm challenging myself to play a completely modless game for the first time in ages, just to refamiliarize myself with what a modless game is actually like lol, and I'm compiling quite a list of things I miss XD
