- I really like the scared emotion. I don’t think it takes over. It happens more on haunted houses I play but I assume that’s the point. I prefer scared over tense, it just adds more animation.
- KLAlexis4 years agoSeasoned NoviceI do get annoyed with the scared emotion. But, only bc of how much it makes most of my sims scared of the same things, and it even does it for sims that shouldn't be scared of it. Even before the scared emotion my sims were already getting tense at the thunder. But, I love realism so why would I turn thunderstorms off? I also like randomness so I don't mind a few things my sim likes/dislikes without my choosing. Some people like it. Some people don't.
I don't want my sims to all be the same, and I shouldn't have to always buy reward traits to fix something. That's just silly. If the Whims were fun to do or I didn't play with multiple sims then maybe I wouldn't mind. But, Everytime, every family? If we have to use whims so much then EA needs to make them more appealing (imo). I would like for them to improve the scared emotion. It is nice to have it and I like it, but an option for balance and a little bit of control over who or what scares my sims is all I'm asking for.
Likewise, it doesn't need to be traits, toggles or a reward, but what if the system was similar to Seasons where you could "declare" a love or hate for certain things when talking to other sims? Or, perhaps doing/causing certain activities causes an outcome where the sim hates/loves it. This would give us flexibiliy to change it without having to cheat in case our sims (or we want them to) move closer towards not being afraid of/liking w.e it is as much. Likewise: a sim doesn't have to be afraid of water for the rest of their life, or maybe a water loving sim ends up hating water due to almost dying one time. This could be a good opportunity to bring back favorites and fears. - I just had a Master Vampire wake up Scared because he had a 'daymare' from sleeping in a coffin. He has to sleep in a coffin because it's one of his weaknesses. I had him jog to reduce the emotion and then write in his journal which wiped out the last bit. The character traits that he earned as a teen came in pretty handy.

I can agree with this. I feel that phobias should be a player choice and we could use a system that allows us to either select what our Sims fear (maybe choose up to two or three) or randomize if we want or have none. - Reaganbogan4 years agoNew RookieWith no mention of a base game emotion overhaul I wasn't expecting the scared emotion to be subtle or varied depending on the situation/sim. Emotions and traits have not been given an improvement they just gave us a new one.
- nikkiheathcote954 years agoNew SpectatorI personally think not having everything under your control was what made the games In the past amazing, no wonder the sims 4 is like how it is, I'm definitely not enthusiastic about the sims 5 it will probably be the same, too easy, too under your control = Boring ?
- I terrorized my sims to check out the fear emotion and honestly they didn't get scared that much, especially not unprompted. I was actually disappointed that my sims didn't get scared of the dark.
- manicobsessive14 years agoSeasoned NewcomerI am going to admit, I don't like the way the scared emotion works either, but things should not be removed from the game for heaven's sake! Just give us more control and options for whatever it is! I was really upset to hear that things in Get Famous had been watered down. If you don't want your sim to be recognised and gone crazy over in the street, then opt out of fame, or put a disguise on. There are ways to deal with it. If my Sim is a huge celebrity, the point of that is to be recognised and have other sims react to you. It's very disappointing. :'(
- Kittybass4 years agoNew SpectatorI haven't played in about 5 months so it was a bit of an adjustment getting used to the new emotion. I felt that it didn't suit some of my sims' personalities. I don't think it should be a one size fits all sort of thing. But I grabbed storm chaser and brave and it's not a problem anymore. I also use a mod to dial it down. I wouldn't want it to be nerfed for everybody, I'm perfectly fine using the options available to me (store reward and/or mod).
- Kita53994 years agoNew SpectatorI really like the scared emotion, but as others have said it needs to be better balanced. I feel like constructive criticism isn’t helpful here, because that too results in things getting nerfed. I mean why nerf something? It seems like a lazy way to address real concerns. I in no way want anything removed, just for the emotions to make actual sense. I have a Sim with the brave reward trait, he also has bro, self assured, and loves the outdoors. Why do I need to give a Sim like that the storm chaser trait, to stop him from being terrified of thunderstorms? It would however make sense for his girlfriend to be afraid as she has neat, perfectionist, and bookworm traits. I think it seems to be more of an issue with traits not doing much to make Sims different from each other, not so much an issue with the emotions themselves.
