Which it doesn't... Singular "You", has a history dating from between the 15th and 17th century, singular "They" has a history from the 18th century and was never used first person, but as a way for a third person to conceal the gender of an individual they were speaking about, in modern English "They" is only singular when the third person is unknown IE not immediately present.
