@simgirl1010 Oh sorry - no, not only for Lunar New Year, but it doesn't look quite right for bride/groom attire for a wedding. I thought of the new year because it's coming up soon and made more sense than a wedding to me. There are so many comments saying it's for a traditional Korean wedding. I don't understand why.

The hanboks I've seen in weddings are usually much more elaborate and decorative. This one looks much more casual for everyday traditional or a celebration. Even the hairstyle.. I'm not sure if they intended it specifically as a bridal set. But I think people are assuming because of the possibility of a wedding game pack coming out.

I searched up Korean weddings and yeah the hanboks are different looking

There isn't much Korean culture in the game anyway, such traditional clothing would look out of place in all worlds, can only really be worn on special occasions.

These outfits are a nice treat. I don't know if I will get much use out of the clothing but they look nice. The hair looks awesome.

I mean theres dennis but he is bit old to dress up like school boy maybe :sweat_smile:
I feel like they should have perhaps went with more standard hanbok for guys but it is what it is

I do feel like these were maybe more with romantic historical dramas in mind than wedding wear though
maybe the female attire goes for guests to weddings though hmm

Looks great, yeah I often feel that the outfits in the game are often not very "standard" they often feel very over the top.

I'm not sure what pre-made sims we have that are korean, there is Vanessa Yong I suppose, and I never made the connection that Liberty Lee might be korean. But I guess it's up to the player to decide as well.

Well Lee is common surname in korea so I sort of figured that she could be mixed or have korean heritage but born in ''willow creek''
there isn't really any info on her parents or anything either so I just ran with it :lol:

It's tricky though when Maxis are focusing on representation I feel that I need to use some clothes right, I wonder how people might feel if I'm posting a picture of a sim wearing this outfit who is much more likely to be japanese (like Miko Ojo for example). Korea and Japan have a complicated history.

I think it would be fine and at worst, I think people would be curious about why someone is dressing up "Japanese" sims in Korean clothes. If there's a reason, it's cool, but I can imagine some may be slightly annoyed if a player wants a traditional look and thinks that Japan and Korea are similar so yukata or hanbok it doesn't matter...

Honestly, though, it's a game. Hanbok is not a religious item and only trolls are going to raise a fuss what Sims can wear what. People are just happy to have more clothes in the game. No one cares.

You are probably right, I just wondered where the outfits was from and which sims that should wear them.

This is exactly why I prefer not to have real-world cultural items, people, or places in the game. All of my sims have their own "pretend" cultures, which follow whatever looks and customs I tell them to do. I think the game does try to stylize real-world inspirations somewhat, but I think many players take them too literally. And that's why it doesn't matter what we do; someone somewhere is going to be offended by it. So I just play my own way with no intent to step on any toes. But if people do have a problem with that, well it's... their problem with that.

I have to somewhat agree. I know a lot of people are happy to see their culture in game and that's also the route the sims 4 is taking, so that's fine by me. I don't mind it. But I don't have a lot of personal use for them since I choose to keep everything as fictional as possible. And then it always becomes about how "accurate, right or wrong" a piece of clothing or culture is instead of sharing all the creative uses for a new item! Everyone instead is scared to offend anyone else by using an item a certain way or not liking it.
I also feels it limits the devs overall creativity and the drama. Just like the snowy escape issue. They have to try to so not to offend the gameplay is left bare and boring. Like the way they took away the taking selfies of graves. I wanted that for evil or mean sims. Or simply my disrespectful teens.
This kind of stuff just leaves you with one way to play the game. And you want to use it any other way your better off not sharing it ?

I'm curious though if we will get a korean style world. Because right now we have nowhere to use this for players who want to be accurate. I know a Korean world was on one if the surveys.....
Would be interesting if this upcoming pack turns out to be a korean drama style love pack lol

I like these hanboks, even if I don't use them, I find it fantastic to have more traditional outfits in my game and I hope for more coming. Hopefully one day they will offer the Dirndl and Lederhosen (Best timing would be the start of the real Oktoberfest), I'm married to a Bavarian and I miss these traditional clothes heavily.

It can be confusing and maybe a bit difficult if something is unfamiliar to you, but hanbok are just clothes. They're not any more fictional or less fictional than most of the other clothes in the game. Is a gown or a tuxedo particularly fictional or non-fictional? Hanbok are similar in that they tend to be worn on special occasions, but they're not scary or meant to offend. I think it's just cultural unfamiliarity that creates some tension, but EA is bringing in completely normal things that may just be unfamiliar to players from a Western culture. Also, the reason people may react about something being "accurate" or not is because if something is very familiar, it's easy to tell if it's right or not, and if it's not, it's just strange and maybe disappointing. For example, if the dev team gave the below as a "regular" wedding dress, people would probably say something.


If your Sims have holidays like Lunar New Year or Chuseok or are reenacting history, then hanbok may suit them well for those circumstances. If not, well... Simmers will have to be creative or maybe this update isn't for them. But I don't think people need to be so stressed about offending others because of how their Sims wear the clothes in the game. If there's an issue, it's EA that's going to be flamed, not players.

Time for my old standby. A new upscale restaurant with staff in traditional dress.

I like how these just pop up randomly. It’s always such a nice surprise to get new free stuff.
