Adding onto what @Finvola said, in TS2 the occult sims could be ignored completely. Sure they showed up at lots, but if you didn't interact with them, they left you alone. TS3 was a little different and with the zombies it went downhill, but then we got option menu toggles. I never understood why they chose to make them interact with you autonomously in TS4. They should be an ignorable character that only interacts autonomously after you make a first engagement. Then they can run wild in your game and those that don't want them can ignore them.
It's kind of funny because I liked the occult sims in the previous games even if I didn't always have them in my game. But in TS4, I literally have never played the scientist profession because I don't like they way aliens were implemented. It's one thing to be abducted randomly, but I remember when the game first came out the aliens were everywhere and abducting constantly even without my activating them. It made me incredibly frustrated.
