In a couple of in-game weeks, I’ll be aging five of my six main Sims up to young adults, and I only just remembered the Parenthood relationship types and decided to create their families, so I have a few questions.How does the game determine whether a Sim’s parenting style is relaxed or authoritative? Is there a certain number of discipline interactions they need to perform, or is it about the percentage of firm/strict interactions vs. calm ones?And what makes two Sims “rival siblings” as opposed to “ally siblings”? I’ve asked this before, but I’m still not sure.

So if you want to have authoritative parents, you need to do X actions. And then from there you'd just have to keep the majority in authoritative. But again I'm not sure.

I just did an experiment with the Simmons family from the gallery. I had Tony and Vanessa fight until their relationship bar was completely red, made them enemies and aged them up... and somehow, they were still “ally siblings”. What?If anyone’s ever had two Sims get any of the sibling rivalry relationship bits, how did you do it?UPDATE: I managed to give Tina a “family frenemy” relationship with Marie, but not vice versa, strangely enough. I forgot to keep track of how many interactions it took, but I tried to mostly use the ones from the pack this time, and after a while, I noticed a few that hadn’t shown up before.

Update on the sibling rivalry experiment: it’s definitely attached to the pack-exclusive mean interactions, not the Sims’ relationship or enemy status. You’ll know your Sims have a sibling rivalry when you start seeing “Trick into believing ___” under the mean category or “Tease about crush/grades/face/bravery” under mischief. (There might be others, but I can’t remember.) I lost track of how many interactions it took, but I think it was around 5-10.I still don’t know how many discipline interactions count as “a lot”. I must’ve had my parent Sims tell their daughter off for swearing or being mean to her brother over 25 times in one day, but every time I try aging her up, she gets the “provided happy childhood” or “passive parent” bonuses with them.

@Sallycutecat It’s possible to have either a positive or negative relationship with either an ally or rival sibling, though.

So do kids have to age up for parents to get a parenting style?? I play with aging off so I obviously don’t benefit from all the features of parenthood just yet since I haven’t aged anyone up manually in a while

I’ve never seen any information about this apart from a list of all the different relationship types. I wonder if anyone ever has looked into it?

I meant the status of rival or ally might depend on their relationship at the time they age up to young adult.

I always use the Firm discipline with my little Simmies. Guess I'll find out over time how they think about the way they were raised. Three of the four are just now Child age, the youngest is still a Toddler and they've got another sibling on the way! :open_mouth: So far, only the eldest was peeved about having siblings. The second baby turned out to be identical twin girls. He was not happy. But he got along with each of them even so.
