Paying bills in University

So some issues I'm already seeing with the new pack from watching the early access videos, is when you click a mailbox there's an option to pay bills. Why does a sim need to pay bills while living in university housing? Another thing I saw that your roommates income is added into your household. Once again, why is a sim able to collect from their roommates to cover the cost of bills. It makes sense on a residential lot but not university housing. The utilities bills should be the responsibility of the university not my sim. This is my first time ever playing university in any sim's title so forgive me if I get something wrong or if I'm unaware of something.
  • My Sim got bills but she had to pay the whole lot on her own...

I found that a bit unfair.
  • Cheapest dorm in Foxbury, different amounts for the two students I've had there. The first time, I thought it resembled the bills for the house they moved out of, so I assumed it was that. The second time however it seemed a bit higher than normal bills, although not as high as the first which came from a more established family. Maybe some more spreadsheet-oriented player would know if there was any such relationship.
  • My current students stay at the cheap dorm in Ubrite. I noticed the mailman stopped by, and saw the note "bills are delivered blabla". Now, about 1 simday later, I decidd to pay those bills, but there is no such option on the mailbox nor the phone. So I assume the game fixes this bug if we just leave those bills for a day or so, they might be "handled by others".
  • Not really, almost. I feel the campus is dead, and my sim doesn't get invites for college-related things. It's like they never left home. The only invites are from people from their hometown. The campus isn't as active as it was in Sims 3.

Usually when you move into university housing in real life you have to pay bills of some kind.

Yes, that's what I was thinking as well. The problem with the OP seems like a bug to me, though.
  • I have never had bills while my sims were in dorms. Although I have seen a few screenshots floating around of bills being 15k+ for living in a dorm with expensive stuff.

It charged my sim 14,515 for weekly bills while living in the dorms. Does this make sense?

I've now graduated about 20 sims, and not one single of them had to pay any dorm bills. Next time, try to ignore those bills and see if they go away. I think they will show as an option only for a few hours right after being delivered.

I went through a full four terms with one sim, got the bills notice every week, but no actual bills. Went through with a pair of sims and had to actually pay them. Since this seems to be a known bug I just cheated the bill money back. Since there is an open bug report on this anyone experiencing it should hit "me too" so the devs are aware of how widespread the problem is.
  • I'm playing my first time with a sim in university dorms and she just got 3000+ simolean bills on her second day living there. Is this a bug or intended? My sim can't pay the bills and comes from a family that doesn't have enough money to take for bills of this price. She has scholarship and I selected student loan when enrolling. If it's intended it sucks and I guess education will only be for the rich sims.
