Penthouse Remodel Question

So the penthouse in the artist place in City Living, can you add an upstairs to it like a loft type thing or is that not possible in apartments? I want my Sim to live there and the idea I was thinking on changing the floor plan that I found on Pinterest included a loft. I just wasn't sure if that was possible in apartments?

  • Oh ok thanks! That place is just so big and I don't like the layout but it's a cool place and wanted to do something different. I saw that idea and wanted to try it out.

Yes, you absolutely can add a second story to the Art District penthouse.

I thought I had grabbed some screen caps of my loft area, but apparently not.

I don't think I even had to use the bb.enablefreebuild cheat to do it.

  • I recently built a new penthouse there. It is pretty big, so I built in the middle and surrounded it with a rooftop garden.

But, yes, you can have an upstairs to it.

Some of the other apartments are two story already, have you looked at those? In the fashion district I think.
  • Yes I have but those are like way too big and I really like the penthouse in the artist district, I just don't like the layout itself so I wasn't gonna redo it a little.

  • You can add stories to pent houses in San Myshuno, but not to the other apartments. Those have build constraints because they're sort of in the middle. But pent houses you can do what you like with. And you can download builds from the gallery for those, unlike for the other apartments. You can also turn them into other types of lots, they don't have to be residential.
  • @j1z1 you can actually download builds from the gallery for standard apartments, but they come under rooms rather than lots. What people do is knock out a tile of adjoining wall so that the entire apartment is classed as one room. You download it then fill in the wall gaps and - hey presto - you have a ready-made apartment :)

But yeah, basically penthouse apartments are just normal lots but up in the sky.

You can't add grass terrain paint, but there is grass flooring so you can even have a garden up there.
  • Ok so I tried to build one but couldn't figure out the roofing for it. Any tips?
  • I build on that lot all the time. In fact, I was working on a one-story remodel earlier this evening. I've even built a three story home on there and put a basketball court on the roof. You can add stories to the existing building but you're better off starting from scratch.

For the roofing, use the half gable or shed roof as others mentioned. If you have a keyboard and mouse, you can also hold down the Shift key and drag the arrow to lengthen or shorten the roof overhang on each side.

I'm on a PS4. That's why I mentioned the keyboard and mouse bit.
  • penthouse lots work same as any other lot except that you can't build basements or anything that goes under "ground level"

so as you noticed yes you can build

personally built "nightclub" there that is like edgy party house
  • Oh I forgot to mention you can put a small pool on the side of the lot where the smaller room is. It won't go all the way to the edge on the side closest to the center of the neighborhood due to the balcony below, but you can still make one that's decent size.
