Yes, I'm afraid adding a "classic" self-employment feature may not work out in the near future. But the retail / restaurant thing just irks me. Like others have said, you cannot make an ambitious restaurant owner because he'll be eternally longing for a job. And you also can't give him a job "on the side" because he'll want to progress in it, or else get tense, and so you feel forced to focus on that instead of on the store / restaurant. It's so .. uch... :'(
