In the new patch, in the patch notes there's a note that says "Gender Preference now affects flirt options". Was there a new gender preference feature added? Was there one the whole time? I'm so confused. Can someone please explain what this means?
Hi Annabeth! The way gender preference works in game is that if you have a Sim act romantically with particular other Sims, that will become their preference over time. But you can also use this mod to control it yourself: http://modthesims.info/d/576385/gender-preference-set.html I checked it with the update and it's working in my game.
Thanks for the mod! And my real name's not Annabeth, it's a fictional character's name xD
My real name isn't my username, either, but it's common to call one by their username. It's infinitely better than hey, you? ;)
I was saying so because it actually sounds like a real name. With "GalacticGal"- it's clear it's a username.- For everyone asking about bisexual sims, there is a mod that allows that here - http://modthesims.info/d/576385/gender-preference-set.html
there is an option for female, one for male, one for both, and one for none (that would be ace/aro). - I think it’s just a fix to put the game back to how it was a year ago before it broke.
At some point with a patch update, the game started ignoring the hidden gender preference on flirt options that appeared as auto suggestions. Sims also started autonomously flirting more with sims that weren’t their gender preference, which was really noticeable at the Romance Festival.
Previously, if you clicked on another sim that wasn’t your sim’s gender preference, it wouldn’t suggest flirting with them as a top menu option. That doesn’t stop you manually choosing it from the romance menu - it just doesn’t push it on you in its suggestions. - amapola767 years agoSeasoned Ace

Oh, if that's all it is, that would be fine. And I'm not a big fan of autonomous flirting from anyone directed at anyone else. As long as the change doesn't remove the flirt options altogether, or decrease the success chances once I choose to use the flirt options, then I can work with it. "Nindigo;c-17121554" wrote:
@GalacticGal Your real name is not GalacticGal and spelled like that...? Gee, I'm utterly inconsolable now :'(
Well, joke aside, the question remains. What exactly does the gender preference update entail?
More confusion -as I am named (Regina actually) and I Write fairy tales for little children - lol.- Sam_XNE9977 years agoSeasoned Ace

Why can we not just simply set a gender preference in CAS instead of having all sims potentially gay. Come on..
Let us players choose this and whether we want to play with it or not. That is also a thing.
This. Honestly, it seems that people are making excuses to prevent this feature from appearing in the game. - Nindigo797 years agoSeasoned AceSo...should gender preference be a thing to select, or a thing to be deselected? Isn't that the real issue at least for some of you?
In order to present the game as all-including, the deselect option is the more appropriate. If the game is simply meant to express tolerance, then the select option makes more sense. It's all about what kind of message the game is meant to send.
I believe Sims 4 is meant to cater to as many as possible, and therefore is presented more as all-including rather than simply tolerant. - Maybe they added this to the gender category in CAS...
- I'm pretty sure it has little impact on the Sim you control, it's trying to imitate real life in that if a your gay Sim flirts with a predominantly straight AI Sim of same gender there is less chance if the flirt action being successful. And if a straight Sim you control flirts with an AI of opposite gender that is predominantly gay then that also would lead to more fails. As far as I have ever seen there are no homophobic Sims and everyone has an open mind and is essentially pansexual, they just have a preference or could be bi if the AI math says so. It's not perfect but I think it's pretty good. As for anyone who is offended/upset/disturbed by a gay Sim approaching their straight Sim, my recommendation is an education in how sexuality works. As for people in relationships flirting with others, that happens in the real world and some people take it further in life as well. Sometimes I like to steal a spouse in the Sim world, it's something I have never and would never do in reality so I live the reactions of the spouse!!!
