Should The Sims start leaning towards high rise buildings

I was disappointed to hear yesterday that the Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia which is eventually going to be the world's tallest building is on hold. I am curious about how high humans could build a building and what the limits are.

Lets test that in The Sims.

Just over 20 years ago Sim City 3000 was released and it had some very cool sky scrapers that would appear with high land value in high density commercial areas:

Imagine how cool it would be if you, the player could actually build a high rise building for different funtions and 3edit every single part of that building?

Residential? Commercial? Hotel? Let the player chose

What will tall buildings look like in the future?

Could we the Simmers actually forecast the future in skyscrapers? We can take our Sims to space in TS3 but what about something for the near future of building?

Of course Sim City 3000 also has that innocence as it is missing a lot of the previous 20 years progress that has been made since then. Sadly there are some landmarks present that no longer stand. I hope that humanity continues to move forwards and The Sims should follow as well.

Indeed Dubai was still only a fraction of what it is now back in '99.

Time to move forwards and bring The Sims into the high rise age!

I'm not too sure - maybe if there was some kind of hotel pack? That would be cool and then it would be viable to have such large buildings, but I think in the long run it may effect the gameplay if you could create hundreds of detailed rooms in them. There would need to be some kind of limitations.

Not a new idea.

It's possible to build useable, multi-unit highrises even in TS2. It takes cheats though.

I would love to do it, however If they do done such thig, we will be stuck on shells like on the high rises in TS3 and TS4

I'll stick to the sims and not say my general about opinions about skyscrapers. I think I'm done with shells in the sims (3 & 4). As cool as they are at giving us the illusion that our sims are part of this very dense city/apartment tower, or that they work here, it's the only way the sims will ever do skyscrapers. You'll never be able to build a 200 level tower in the sims. Not only for technical reasons, but also because you'd be bored to death by the 10th floor if you get to it. And as a shell like in City Living or Late Night in TS3, it's a nice illusion and they've already done this twice.

I would much rather be able to build low level apartment complexes (4 levels), maybe 8 apartments (4 for my sims and the rest for townies to be my neighbors). This would be something you can build from scratch and be fully playable and enjoyable for everyone.

I think it's a safe bet that San Myshuno is the last city with apartments that we're getting in TS4 but I might be wrong.

Personally I have little interest in high rise buildings, but then I'm not a city girl. I love my cute little cottages and Victorian builds. I would just prefer a greater variety of worlds inspired by different areas.

Its a dream! I mean... at this point I think normal apartments should be a base game feature (imagine that, and how many urban worlds we can get with). This is the franshise that is making the same content in 19 years of existence. Every "new" feature is little and sometimes no one cares about it! The last time Maxis pushed the limits of this game was with the open world and now its gone! They didn't tried to improve and fix the problems in TS3 to make TS4, they decided to cut a lot to make the biggest step down in the franshise to be milkshaked more than ever. Even with SimCity and other sim games. Seriously... what decent thing we get for SimCity from Maxis and EA after SimCity 4? Remember when they planned to launch SimsVille? "A game that will feature SimCity and The Sims together" but never came true? What im trying to say is that with EA we are just allowed to dream but the reality is always the same.

I wish I could say I agree with this. I would, IF they would do something to rework the apartment system. OR If they could scrap it and try something different. I'm just not a big fan of the way apartments and things work in the sims 4. Maybe if they were to re-imagine it, I would TOTALLY be down for high rise buildings!

Who thought it would be a problem in the current game?

I just started building a house, just a two story house, and the camera is always too high or too low. I cannot, no matter how little I try to make the movement, get it to focus where I want it. It is so frustrating.

I built a couple houses that were only a level or two higher than the normal limit, and I downloaded some of the skyskrapers built with the cheats. The game simply wasn't built for it and the camera movements were awful. Almost scary. I deleted them and decided it was best to stay within the limits.

I don't know how the programming is done, but I assume there simply has to be some sort of "reasonable" parameters beyond which it just can't render properly, and it's probably not very conducive to extra tall buildings.
