So hey this is my first time playing through the sims 4 with the seasons expansion added on. Winter is literaly around the corner, its day 22 of fall and my sims experienced their first freezing day. My male sim went to the gym and everyone was freezing so I added a thermostat and turned it on. But I am wondering now about the other buildings, not just the commercial ones but the regular resident ones. Would I be able to add a thermostat to thie homes so they don't freeze to death? Btw I haven't posted here in years! I hope people still come here!

Sims in other houses don't really die of antyhing other than old age unless you play them so you don't need to worry about them freezing unless you're visiting them at the time.

@Nushnushganay I don't think thermostats are broken, they just didn't program them to auto change. You need to click on it yourself to change the temperature.@SimAlexandria I think @LindsaySeddon1 probably just meant in unplayed sims houses. There is no need to add thermostats into unplayed sims houses because they are never loaded unless you go visit them, therefore the sims inside the houses won't die in there. It is, of course, possible for other sims to die while they are outside in the cold.

I've noticed that thermostats work automatic on community lots but for some reason they don't in sims homes. I had to download LittleMsSam's auto thermostat mod because I could never remember to turn it off once the weather warmed up again. :D

You can add them, but idk if other sims actually use them. I usually forget to include them and my sims haven’t died from freezing. As soon as you get a pop up saying their freezing just get on the cold weather clothing

I've done that before but I kind of gave up. Because I think my current Sim is the only one who uses it and one time my Sim went into a building that had one I put in there and it was boiling because no one had turned it down. So now I'm not sure if I want to add them now or not.

Oh wait there is?! That's cool! Might figure that out because sometimes I even forget to change it in my Sims' house lol

you mean there's a mod that works as a thermostat, to the thermostat? the fact that that is needed proves thermostats are broken. even if you turn it up in winter, it shouldn't still be heating in summer. I vastly prefer the functional radiators mod then set radiators to auto behavior, and never again have uncomfortable interiors except heat waves, for which there are also cc overhead ac units. but glad to know a modder made a way to make thermostats have their own thermostat! lol

Ah that makes sense! Thanks for clarifying it for me :) And I agree, I don't think they are broken either.
