When they changed the eating speed due to feedback, I didn't understand what the issue was.
Number 1: I have no desire to place one mod or cc of any kind in my game.
Number 2: I like when my Sim gets up and hug others, looks around when they eat, talks to someone they know at a restaurant, etc.
Number 3: I don't need to play with a freaking robot that doesn't do quirky and unrealistic things.
Someone in another thread stated that if you talk to another Sim while they are eating it slows it down which totally works by the way. That is the solution I now use.
Exactly this. I'm understanding of people wanting different things from the game. But you are exactly right. They will just be emotionless robots scarfing down food as fast as possible to then do.....what?
I have always appreciated and enjoyed the way they eat, the little face expressions they make, the convos they have, the sips of water in between.
I love how one of sims would eat fruit cake with a scrunched up face so mad and disgusted. And the one next to him was loving it? then there is an option that pops up to discuss the food. Like none of that is a reality anymore. It sounds super simple but it was meaningful to me and I loved it. I have many pictures of them just eating. Our food pictures because I like seeing what they make or how they eat it?
My sims don't even work. Or they freelance. So there is no workaholic schedule they just enjoy life or survive the apocalypse. So what about sims with tons of free time who just want to enjoy the little things in life?
And even if my sims did work, when I played careers before they packed lunch? They ate before sleep or woke up extra early? And they certainly never died of hunger at work? And the actor career always had food so I ate lunch there. Kids had something at school...
So I was confused about this nerf request myself. - crocobauraSeasoned Ace

It certainly has seem so the last times I've played. Unless they all get to the table at pretty much the same time, one of them will be done before the others are halfway through. If I want a family dinner, I have to make sure all Sims are close to the kitchen counter once the cooking is complete. Amusing the first times, but not the kind of gameplay I'm looking for.
They changed the wrong thing in this time-saving attempt as far as I'm concerned. Should have shortened the time it takes to cook instead. Varying times for breakfast, dinner and grandiose meals. It's far easier to interrupt my Sims at the table and send them on their way then having to cut their cooking activities short just because that one family member who couldn't leave them alone and just had to chat before breakfast. And cooking is easy enough to increase at it is. Shorter cooking times would increase the time it takes to make you a master chef.
There is also the option to eat leftovers. If sims are in a hurry to get to work, they should just eat quick meals or leftovers. No need to cook if they are short on time. They cook a large meal for dinner and eat the leftovers at breakfast time the next day. - crocobauraSeasoned Ace

Which works if you have a small household or manage to get two Sims to cook together (the interaction itself got stuck for me with Sim number 2 endlessly trying to gather the group of 2 people while Sim nr 1 did all the work, but I still got a bigger meal) but gets tougher at 7-8 Sims. But it's not really a problem once the food is done. The leftovers solution is always viable, but again, they eat too fast.
I personally would still prefer shorter cooking/longer eating periods rather than the current deal. Except the grandiose meals. A turkey needs to take its time.
The issue is really time management. If you know you will need to cook in the morning, you wake your sim up earlier. If you don't want to wake up earlier, you can cook the night before or even two - three days before. My sims always have leftovers in the fridge, there is never the issue of no time to cook. And if your sim must eat in the morning surely they need to wake up early enough to do so otherwise we might next see that sims don't need to feed anymore because some people couldn't feed their sims before they went to work. - I disagree that eating is too fast; I like it the way it is right now.
Before, it was so frustrating getting sims ready at a reasonable time. How early did I really need to wake them up? It shouldn't take 3-4 hours to get ready for work or school. At the table, sims would always look around, sniff their food, stare into the void blankly... then slowly take one bite. They still do that now, but it takes significantly less bites so it's more tolerable.
As for family meals, they can still do it. Eating together is one of my favorite things to do with my families, and it's something I do all the time.
The trick isn't to just call to meal and have everyone wander from wherever they are to the table. If a sim is on the other side of the house, by the time they get to the table the sim who called to meal is going to be finished with their food.
Remember, eating is slower if sims are multitasking. Set up the table before you have sims eat. Instead of grab serving, use pick up serving and place the plates on the table. Have your sims sit down at the table, eat and start talking to each other.

The only issues remaining are musical chairs and washing dishes immediately after finishing their plate. Musical chairs isn't just an issue for eating, it's an issue everywhere. I use a mod by simvasion called chat greeting fix and it is amazing. I also use a mod by Bienchen called No Autonomous Wash Dishes After Eating. - moderateospreyNew SpectatorThe problem I find is that when they change stuff like this, its always too extreme of a change. Eating is way too fast now, IMO and cooking takes forever for even the simplest meals. Some sensitive rebalancing would do the game a power of good.
I have also spotted it can take a sim hours to finish a drink when chatting at the bar. - GalacticGalSeasoned AceOh. My. Word. First the complaint goes out that Sims take too long to eat. The devs 'fix' it, now players are complaining they eat too fast? Is there a happy medium, peeps? I mean, really. Make the best of it. Place the platter of food on the table, have your Sims sit, then have them grab food at the same time. Oi!

I find that quite tricky to do. The sim doing the cooking often grabs their own meal the instant they put the dish down and they will often finish their meal by the time other sims have arrived for theirs.
I also find conversations over food can barely get started as they are up washing dishes.
The complaints both ways are valid, IMO. Its like someone asking turn music up a bit and so they then turn it up full volume. Balance in video games is a thing and I don't think the sims devs should be immune to criticism of the lack of balance of many of the game's mechanics. - GalacticGalSeasoned Ace

Sorry if I offended you. I get annoyed over the constant complaints over things trivial. Keep smiling, keep your head up, it's all going to be okay. - moderateospreyNew Spectator

Not offended at all! :) Was simply disagreeing! Sorry my response was so blunt :) - paigeisin5New SpectatorI just use a mod that keeps Sims seated after they inhale their meal. This way the fam can socialize for a few minutes, raise their socials and act as if they're a real family. I don't understand all the fuss folks are making over this issue when there are so many mods that allow the player to tweak the game to match every player's gaming style. I would much rather use a mod than depend on the teams to make these kinds of changes. When the teams made the changes to our Sims's eating habits; they, supposedly, also changed how long it takes for our Sims to shower, bathe and prepare the meals. Funny, I haven't noticed any changes to showering, bathing or food preparation. But I dislike the speed at which my Sims eat. And with all the hype over the recipes in this game, that are made with ingredients our Sims grow themselves, it's a bit of a waste to see all their hard work not being appreciated more. But we get what the devs give us. Even if we didn't ask for some of those changes in the first place. I thank my stars we have a great group of modders, or I would have quit Sims4 long ago. Do I want the devs to change it again? Heck no. The word 'moderate' doesn't seem to mean much to the devs. It's either too much or too little, there is no such thing as a middle ground in their world. :/
